We spend a lot of time outside. He's madly in love with the outdoors. We even nap outside on the weekends. Throw the frisbee with the dog, who he thinks is hilarious, take walks, rock on the porch swing, lay in the grass while I'm gardening. We're actually on the porch right now. Even though he goes to work with me, we take mini outdoor breaks during the day. It really keeps him in a good mood. He's like his mama.

@tysonja: tummy time tips (as I had one who hated it):
1) prop baby up on a breastfeeding pillow and put toys in front where baby can see them and possibly grab them.....this really changed his attitude about tummy time and after he liked the propped-up tummy time I was able to get him to like flat tummy time

2) just keep trying different places: when he was young and fighting tt I would even put him on tables, countertops, and very odd places (with me right there!!) and sometimes just being somewhere weird helped. To this day, I put his tummy time quilts in different places around the house on the floor, and change the places every day as I go around doing my chores. like @CocoBee I would dance in front of him at tummy times and he found it quite amusing.

I actually wrote a blog post on this recently!!

One thing DS has started to LOVE LOVE LOVE is dancing! I turn on some peppy music and dance with him while singing the song- he just giggles and laughs - it's sooo cute. Or I dance for him lol, I put him in the exersaucer and he watches me dance around the kitchen haha he loves that too.

He spends a little time in his swing each morning while I check email. We often go to the gym in the mornings as well, they have a baby nursery I drop him off while I work out.

He has liked reading (aka chewing) on books lately.

Alternating play spaces has helped - we play in the livingroom most of the time, but we also play in his room, the office, and our bedroom. I do put him in the kitchen while I make dinner, but only in the exersaucer or bouncer.

He loves to eat now too! He is 6.5 months. He would probably eat all day long if I let him. I cannot believe how hungry this kid is. We spend a good portion of the day eating.

I usually try to take him out a couple weeks, normally it's just errands but he loves a change of scenery. Library, walks, post office, shopping (Even just window shopping), thrifting, grandma's house, grocery shopping and playdates. We sometimes get together with a friend from church whose DD is just 3 months older than DS. They love to watch each other.

When I cook, I like @cvbee, tell him everything I'm doing like I'm really excited and he loves feeling "a part" of it! haha I plan to teach him to cook at a young age ;)

He takes 2-3 naps a day, depending on when he wakes up.

But sometimes I still feel like you, a little bored at times since most activities last less than ten minutes. But it's getting easier as he gets older and I need to remember to enjoy time before he's really mobile (he can only scoot right now).

We play in the grass outside - he still isn't sure what to "do" with it, so he kind of stares at it, or watches the trees, bugs, cars, neighbors etc. We can spend 20 minutes outside doing "nothing"

Oooh and baby photoshoots!! I love them! He is still mesmerized by the camera. I set it up inside or outside, on a nice quilt or in the bumbo and snap some cute pics, I usually dress him up. It's so fun :)

The first four months were pretty boring -- she didn't really play much and I considered it a "full" day if she got in like 5 minutes of tummy time.

Now at 6.5 months, she's way more fun! She plays in her jumperoo or bouncer if I have to get some stuff done. I play with her on the floor a lot (shake toys with her, read to her, sing to her, etc). Twice a week we go to Mommy & Me classes, and every few days, we'll go visit my parents. I also run errands with her almost every day so I'll take her out and talk/engage her. It doesn't sound like much, but our day goes by so quickly!

Let's see, wear her while I clean, sit in the bouncy and watch th toys (it has a great mobile), play in the exersaucer, go for walks to the coffee shop, fight her on taking naps (it takes hours to get her down sometimes), put her in the swing, put her on her play mat with toys and watch her scoot around.....

Right now she is in the exersaucer sucking on everything she can get her hands on.

@Crumbs: Mine is 4.5 months old. He takes 3 naps in the day. Maybe it's me who feels like we always need to be doing new things. I even add in other things here and there, like dancing with Mommy to music, or Mommy exercising while trying to incorporate baby (like do crunches with baby on tummy, etc), or I put on classical music and lay him in the pack and play and I make the toys do 'ballet' in the air above his head to the music. Perhaps it is all a bit much. :)

I'm the bad mom of the group as the ONLY thing that has even remotely entertained DD is TV.... and even that didn't happen till 4.5 months. The first 4 were spent carrying, rocking, shhhing, and just trying to keep her from fussing. Needless to say she has a bit of TV time with DS (who's 8) everyday and watches Phineas & Furb with him. She loves watching it with him & on his xbox days (mwf for 45 min) she loves watching him play. Other than that & actual shopping while I wear her (which she loves) she pretty much hates everything else after 3-5 minutes. We're hoping as she becomes more mobile she'll get happier! lol

With DS I did alot of the things listed above... they just haven't worked AT ALL for DD. Gotta love how every kid is different in temperament =/.

Tummy time, floor time (on his back), exersaucer, jumperoo...
We walk the dog every morning and I take him to the park everyday (he can sit up on his own and loves the swings). We also sit outside on a blanket and throw the frisbee for our dog. I run at least one errand everyday to get out of the house between naps.

@cvbee: Wow, that sounds like such a full day! How old is your LO and how many naps does s/he have during the day? My LOs only 10 weeks and I'm looking forward to having activities with her.

For now it's just the bouncer, baby gym, and the play pen where I propped up a activity book/puzzle. The bouncer gets the longest time, but it's still not much.

I'm wondering the same thing. LO (15 weeks) is getting a lot more curious and observant, but she still can't sit up. So at the moment we're doing lots of time on the play gym and going for walks in the stroller, but sometimes I feel guilty - like maybe she's getting bored? Then again, I guess everything is new to babies at this age so maybe not.

I have tummy times in many places around the house. I put down a different colourful quilt in a few different places, with about 4 or 5 toys on the perimeter (different toys on each quilt). So, as I go room to room, I pop him on them. He's made good tummy time progress with this variety of places.

Other things we do: stroller walks, ergo walks, bath time (twice a day because he loves it), read him a story, songs while I make his feet and hands dance (I love songs so this can go on for a while). Now that he can sit with assistance, we've added 'table time' where he sits at the table and works on toys that way. I also put him in his bounce chair on vibrate while I cook and I tell him all the things I'm doing, like I'm a cooking show. (I also do this if he's on a tummy-time quilt in the kitchen). Oh, and I also give him time on his back in the pack and play, which has over-hanging toys and I call it 'time with the toys'. I put him in there and go have a shower or go on the laptop. :) And I do find the day passes nicely if I can take him on at least one outing to visit someone, get groceries, or something like that.

Tummy time, walks, play gym, holding, singing, etc. once she started getting better head control I put her in the exersaucer..

The first few months of life were pretty boring! I felt bad for not entertaining her better, but eh. :)

My baby bird is not sitting up yet and I need more ideas as to what to do with her during the day. I don't want to have her sit there all day, whether I'm wearing her or not. Right now we read, dance, do tummy time, sit in the walker, go for walks etc but these things only last so long.
