That's served at breakfast. Since its also my dad's birthday on New Year's, we usually have "birthday soup" which is a seaweed soup with shredded beef as part of lunch or dinner later in the day. Since everyone is going back and forth to the parade, my maternal grandmother does an open house and serves chili and roast pork/beef sandwiches, pasta and potato salad. Then we head over to my paternal grandmother's house after the parade and eat lasagna, roast chicken, tripe, antipasti, sausage and peppers, meatballs, ambrosia salad.
