There are 4 teachers so I gave $10 gift cards to each. I was thinking I should give something 'bigger' to the lead teacher but wasn't sure so I gave them all the same.

@ineebee: I agree that it's not a payment or a "tip". I feel like tips are for waitresses, bellman, taxi drivers, etc. Not teachers, not even daycare. But I'm sure most any gift is appreciated, and gosh...maybe daycare teachers expect more than public school teachers do. No clue!

My parents used to own a daycare and I never saw anything other than the typical mug-with-hot chocolate or homemade treats, but this was back in the 80's-90's.

@tequiero21: haha...you must live near me ;-) Anyway, I polled my friends at work (several of us all have LOs who go to the same center) and the gifts are all things like DD or Starbucks gift card, I'm doing a monogram insulated straw tumbler with a small Target GC (or maybe the Starbucks standby) and some candies around the gift card.

We have 4 teachers and a couple of floaters but all my coworkers are only doing the main teachers (who are on the "Teacher board" listed under our classroom's name.

I'm a teacher and I get a lot of baked goods from parents, which I actually like (if I don't like it, I put it in the teacher's lounge or take it to a meeting...but 98% of the time, I like it).

I got my first gift today--homemade Rugelach!

@tequiero21: Holy crap, hundreds of dollars each? Yikes!!! Even in a rich district/county, that is a LOT. As a teacher in a working-class school district, a $10 gift card is pretty frikkin special. I agree with others who say spend whatever you can afford or are comfortable with. It's a gift! Extra! Not a payment.

Thx ladies.... Good thing these sound reasonable. My hubby thinks we should give hundreds of dollars each, which I think is way too much. I guess cuz of the location in jersey we are in.

I usually give a Copco water tumbler that I fill with some sort of candy like Hershey kisses and a gift card. This year we're doing $10 gift cards.

Wow! You all are so generous! I don't have kids yet (only 24 weeks along!), but I am a teacher (high school, though, so it's different). I've been given baked goods, mugs, and once or twice a small gift card (maybe $5 or $10). Each time it felt so special! I say get whatever you can afford, knowing that the thought behind it is what will be appreciated! Honestly, a thoughtful card thanking me for my work is the best present I've ever gotten! Now if I could get anything, gift cards to Starbucks or Target would be the best!!

I did a GC to Target for his main teacher and also donated some items to the school that were requested. I will probably buy her some flowers or a small plant as well.

I always do gift cards. I always have about a dozen teachers to gift and it's the easiest thing. Sometimes I'll include some treats with the gift cards if I have the time. Otherwise, I always buy treats for everyone to share in their break room.

My kids go to pre-pre-k and have three teachers. I'm sure I have to give presents, but what? I'm assuming money is best, cash is king. But how much? What do you give them?
