Long wait times are super annoying. Also, the practice is a teaching program, so you get a different resident every appointment.

I don't do the standard gloucose test; instead I do the A1c test. All fine and dandy, except being asked EVERY appointment "oh you didn't do the gloucose test?" And repeating myself ad nauseam over 5+ months gets old, really fast. JUST READ MY CHART, FFS.

I like that my doctor's office can do sonograms and most blood tests right in the office. And the hospital where the doctors deliver. And they've been very good about squeezing me in if I needed an emergency appointment. And they always have evening hours - it's so awesome that I've only had to take time off work twice for appointments!

I don't like that the doctors seem really over-scheduled lately. So my care this time has been kind of odd - I feel like I was poked and prodded all the time with my first pregnancy, but this time I'm 7 months and the doctor only examined me once. Not that I'm complaining, I hate stirrups. What's worse is that she forgets stuff from my medical history, and I had to remind her at the last appointment that I needed an important shot. And at one of the early appointments she asked me if this is my third baby... ok, I don't expect her to remember if I got that shot on time or how many weeks I am, but I wish she'd at least remember that she treated me five months before that when I lost the second pregnancy...

I don't have anything bad to say about my midwives. Appointments are always on time, petty quick (but not rushed), and there are only 3 of them in the practice so you get to know them pretty well and one of them will definitely deliver my baby. I guess I wish my appointments were more frequent so I could hear baby's heartbeat more often but that's not their fault!!

I am enjoying my prenatal experience. It helps that the medical offices are connected to the hospital and the lab so I go to one place for everything, I also have a nurse caseworker assigned to me to give me weekly progesterone shots so I'm in there a lot and they know me well. I am always seen on time and I always get a print out of my info afterwards (we have Kaiser). It's pretty great!

I can't think of a single thing I dislike about my OB. She's been my gynecologist for years and was so happy when I got pregnant. Everything is in one place so I don't have to go anywhere else for labs or ultrasounds. The hospital the practice is affiliated with is very nice and 10 minutes from my house. The only thing is I wish I could guarantee she'd be the one delivering my baby.

I like the location and ease of making appt's. I liked 95% of the dr's.

I disliked how they handled my borderline high bp. At my first 2 appts they didn't do anything, then when I went to see the specialist he immediately put me on meds. Then every time I went to my normal ob they always freaked out about how high my bp was. Then I'd go to the specialist and he'd be all calm and either increase my meds or tell me everything was ok. It was stressful and worrisome when they'd freak out. When I went to have my rh shot my bp was slightly elevated and they made me stay overnight in the hospital. It was a nightmare. The next morning when I was released I had to go see the specialist to make sure all was ok and they basically said that my overnight stay was pointless and unnecessary!! I was so upset. The on call dr had even told me I might have to deliver that night!! It was terrifying and not needed.

I had a wonderful experience, really great. There was only one minor problem and it was that one of the nurses didn't speak English that well and I had to have my husband call and speak to her on the phone at times.

I loved my doctor, I knew he wouldn't be delivering my son, but he had highest confidence in the hospital so he signed me over and I continued to be in great hands.

I went to a small office with only one OB and 3 nurses. I was able to get to know them all very well and I felt so well cared for. She takes a lot less patients, and when the time came she wasn't on call when my baby was born the second time so another doctor did my c-section, but she works with a bigger practice that takes over for her when shes not on call so it was no big deal. It was such an awesome experience having such a small practice.

I didn't like that when I was pregnant they made me feel like I basically needed to SAH in order to accommodate their availability. I work a stressful job and it's 40 minutes to their office from home and from work. So going to an appointment that went long or needed blood work could kill half my day. Everybody just seemed to think I had all the time in the world to hang out there. I even got asked a bunch of times if I was still working. Um yes, our family depends on my pretty significant income, thanks.

I also didn't like the endocrinologists that they made me feel like I HAD to work with. One of them was terrible and every time I saw her she made me cry. And I felt like they were using outdated methods.

There is no follow up with test results, even though I ask at every apointment. When I ask about test results they just give me a blank stare and say "oh, I dont know. I better call the lab and ask for the results". It took them 2 months for them to find out I failed my 1 hour GTT.

They also have no follow through with insurance referals and issues. The office told me repeatedly that I was approved to deliver at the hospital my OB has privledges at. I called the insurance to double check and was told it was not authorized, and I would have been charged full price had I delivered there. I had to get the paperwork for the office to fillout, bring it to them, and fax it back to the insurance myself to get it authorized. The girls at the OB office were arguing with me saying it "wouldn't have mattered because your insurance knows you are pregnant and they could have fixed it after the fact". Um, no.

I'm about to be changing over to a different OB (high risk) but for now...

Likes
Have had the same dr for awhile so they recognize me and I feel like I "know" them a bit
Everything is done in their office- no separate locations for ultrasounds or blood work
Everyone is pretty nice, especially the ultrasound tech that does the NT and anatomy scans

Dislikes
They seem overbooked which can make things seem rushed at times
Wait times can be over an hour and that's not really uncommon
When things get complicated I feel a little out on my own (in no small part due to the rushing mentioned above)
Don't love the hospital they usually deliver at- no nicu which was ok the first time around but this pregnancy has me nervous

I have only ever seen one other gynecologist and that was in another state so I don't have much basis for comparison.

I liked that they could do everything in one place and I love my OB. I had to have extra ultrasounds to monitor LO's growth and the doctor that read them was not a people person, very intelligent and I'm so glad he was carefully monitoring our baby and trying to prepare us for things, but he didn't explain things very well!

My main gripe is that it's so annoying to get there. Typical Boston, but it's less than 10 miles away and takes me more than half an hour to drive there. But obviously that's not the offices fault!

I like that they are pretty organized, but scheduling could get annoying last time. Hopefully this time t will be easier since I sah and am more flexible. Many of the midwives are only in that location one day a week so if you need to reschedule it can suck.

@YouGotMe: Yeah, I've noticed a definite difference between my RE's office and my OB's. My RE did u/s almost every week and would take so much time and care in letting us see everything. I was definitely spoiled at my RE's office. Though, I do have to remind myself that I paid 90% out of pocket for the procedures I had. So they better treat me like I'm their only patient. I miss my RE's office. They were so happy when I graduated. I'm definitely going to bring the babies by when they are born.

Now my OB, the doctor and the other drs in the office are great. They are so nice and helpful. The only gripe is the u/s tech is all about work. She would get in there, do my u/s and get out. I guess I could say she is efficient. I wish she was a bit nicer. She's not mean but I would never look forward to seeing her. It might take my excitement for having u/s done down a notch. DH says she's probably that way because of all the patients she has. Like I said earlier, it probably has to do with how I was treated at my RE's office and how they would bend over backwards to do anything for me.

The only thing I really dislike is that I always have to wait a long time for my appointments. If I didn't have such a busy job I wouldn't mind as much, but it's frustrating to be away from the office for so long.

@FaithFertility: We had a similar situation where two doctors in my practice have different progesterone levels that they deem acceptable. It seems weird to me, since depending on who you saw you would get a different treatment plan.

Up until my last appointment where I felt like my concerns were totally dismissed and I was told bad info, I generally have no issues with my midwives. I think the only problem I had was that they didn't do a great job communicating with each other, so I'd be told that at my next appointment x would happen, but then when I got to that next appointment it didn't. Since at least once they said they were doing a pelvic exam and I was stressed about refusing it, I'm actually glad it wound up not happening! Overall I love that they already do everything I planned to ask for, so I basically don't need a birth plan, and rarely have to debate whether I agree with a course of action they recommend.

The MFM office is a lot more frustrating, in that I have to wait forever every time. They're always booked way out in advance, and I think they're overbooking because they're literally always running late. But the doctors and ultrasound techs there have always been great, and that's the main thing really.

I was very used to my RE's clinic which had everything under one roof and never had to wait too long.

Then I went to my OB clinic which made me wait a few times and I had to go to different clinics for bloodwork, ultrasounds and my GD tests. I also was going to have to deliver at the hospital that I hate.
I ended up having an amazing experience with this OB and hospital.

The only thing I would want is to have all my tests be in the same area.

My pregnancy during prenatal care was super low risk and "normal" (once I went into labor it was another story!). So I was glad that every appointment was quick and easy, that I didn't have to wait a lot, and that I had no copays. If I was paying even a small amount for all those appts, I would have been more annoyed!

My OB is very chill and lowkey. Luckily I am fairly educated about medical issues being a nurse and big researcher, but that could have been irritating if I actually had more questions or concerns.

I saw an OB practice with first pregnancy and they were super disorganized..long wait times, lack of follow-up on test results, and even had incorrect information in my file! Luckily my pregnancy and L&D was low risk and uneventful and the doctor was very supportive of my desire for natural, intervention-free birth.

@autumnlove: That seems really annoying and would bother me too.

My biggest gripe is that I have a rare brain abnormality that *could* be dangerous for pregnancy (though probably not, and in all likelihood, I have almost the same chance of something bad happening in my brain as a result of pregnancy as someone with no known issues, but it's known about, so everyone has to consider it). EVERY time I go to the doc (regular OB, or high risk OB), they still seem really confused about it and really confused about how it might or might not affect me (one minute, I'm the highest risk patient ever, the next, I'm super low risk). It gets confusing and frustrating. I think at the end of the day, they just don't understand it, but then they ignore and belittle my neuro's opinion (that it's fine).

I also wish they would have been more communicative in the beginning. Like for a while, I had no idea what was going on, and they handed me the genetic testing box with no instructions, and I thought they should have talked more about something that most consider an important decision (instead, I just did a lot of internet research about it).

Otherwise, I don't have other complaints. My docs are really nice! Without the confusion of my weird situation, I might not have many complaints at all!

I like that it's all in one place (blood tests, sonograms and doctors), and I LOVE 3/5 of the doctors. I appreciate the care and concern they show, and like that they refer to each pregnancy as a baby as soon as the stick turns pink (they don't use terms like "spontaneous abortion" or "chemical pregnancy" or call it an embryo...it's always a baby)

I HATE one of them. and the front office gets so overwhelmed, they really suck at communication (sometimes calls aren't returned or tests take longer than normal to be communicated.

I like my regular OB but I am not a huge fan of my perinatologist right now. He always bashes other Drs. & nurses (calls them idiots) and is really bad about returning my calls and emails.

I also wish I could go to one location instead of 3 places for my prenatal care but that is minor gripe!
