we use water or BM, if I happen to have some in the fridge. LO seems to like the water mix better. We have a filter on our tap that we use for him.

@anbanan15: ahh ok, I thought it was just carrots. Good to know it's other veggies too!

@mediagirl: ha I know, if he doesn't finish the puree I'm like, darn it! There was a good quarter oz of BM in there! :)

I've always used tap water (county water). I can't stand to see my good breastmilk go to mixing food. I feel like I'm wasting it. LOL.

I used breastmilk or the cooking water if it wasn't a root veggie. Your not supposed to use the cooking water with any root veggie (carrots, beets, parsnips, etc) because of the nitrates. If I didn' have breastmilk in those cases I would use bottle spring water. We didn't use purees much though.

They make pediatric water that's specifically to use with babies.
I'm stealing the idea to put some breastmilk in an ice cube tray - genius!!!

I will hand express a bit if I need some. I also try to keep about 10ml on hand for purées. I just store it in one of the tiny colostrum bottles after I pump.

If you use water, I don't recommend you use any water as it can cause an infection to your baby. Make sure you get the high quality water. Buy one. I use the best quality bottle water with purees.

Can you just hand express off a bit breastmilk to mix in or maybe freeze some into an ice cube tray just for purée purposes?

I've been making LO purees, and have mainly been using breastmilk. However, I don't always have fresh breastmilk on hand, and I don't want to defrost a bag of frozen just to use a small amount in a puree. I asked the pedi if I could use water and the NP said I should use breastmilk or formula...but if I were using jarred baby food, it would have water in it, right? So I don't really see why I can't use water. What do you use?
