@Eko: well even if we go for a walk down the street to get groceries or some fresh air, I need something to keep him warm! I already got a cute snow suit bunting bag type thing on Black Friday. I didn't have one for DS1 who was also born in winter (we just used blankets) so I know it's not essential. I just put it on my list because I already have it :)

Aquaphor is similar to Vaseline but not quite the same. Aquaphor works better than Vaseline. I only used Vaseline because of my sons circumcision. Definitely need some type of moisturizer though.

I second the white noise machine and make sure you have plenty of food!!!

Lastly, I think the snow suit on your list is not needed. It's not like LO will be outside for extended periods of time.

@californiadreams: aquafor is maybe similar to vaseline? super heavy moisturizer for those rosey winter cheeks! Lanolin is nipple cream and good call on the formula. I remember my most anxious night with DD1 was when I thought she wasnt going to nurse and realized I had no formula in the house...full.melt.down!!!!

@Mrs D: what is aquafor? I got some free samples of formula that I'm keeping until I know bf-ing is going well. Lanolin is nipple cream, right?

@cam: good idea on the white noise machine. DH woke me when he took a shower this morning, so it might be good to have one in our room. And a nightlight!

@regberadaisy: good point on infant meds! DS uses the children one, so I need to pick up the infant ones. Thanks!

White noise machine? We used ours early and even when he was in my room it helped me sleep too. Also the best thing I ran out to purchase were nightlights for our room and the hallway

@californiadreams: a bouncer of some sort? I used it A LOT with DD2 with a toddler underfoot! Have more than one option for carrier in case baby doesn't like one. My first hated baby wearing but it was a life saver for my second. It is the only way DD1 got fed most days!

Infant Ibuprofen, snot sucker, rectal thermometer, a humidifier. :/ Necessary evils you don't want to get two kids in the car to get.

@Foodnerd81: good idea, i will sanitize everything just in case! And i should get more saline spray! i never used it much with DS1 because he hated us doing anything to his nose, and i recently got rid of the ones we had because they were expired, so i should get more. thanks!

Great list! Since you have a pump and bottles, I would get that out and sanitize the parts. I never needed it in the beginning last time but this time I was so engorged my LO couldn't latch when she was a few days old and I hand expressed into a bottle for Dh to feed her. I am glad I boiled all that stuff before.

I was going to say nipple cream too, though my hospital gave me a tiny tube that would have been enough.

Maybe saline spray for baby in case she gets congested? That's the one that I had to send someone out to get.

But yeah that's a great list. My baby is 6 weeks and id say you covered it!

@sapphire: thanks. i do have my pump - found it today, but will do my best to not pump for the first six weeks (same as paci) and this is what worked out fine with DS1, so i feel pretty hopeful about it. I've had advil sitting in my medicine cabinet for 9 months staring at my longingly when i had migraines, so that's there too! I am planning to make padsicles too (hoping for a VBAC!)

@JenGirl: i've got snacks too! and set up my glider in front of the TV in my living room with the mouse/keyboard on my right so i can use netflix easily :) i plan to re-watch the whole Friends series (with DS1, i watched the entire series of Seinfeld in a month, it was awesome).

Great list! You've got most of the important stuff!

You never know how nursing will go. I'd have a pump and some bottles handy. Helpful for someone else to be able to take a feed so you can get some rest.

Agree with pacifier.

Ibuprofen, stool softener, granny panties, might make some padsicles ahead of time.

Snacks snacks snacks! Esp things that can be eaten one handed.

@alphagam84: good ideas! i do have cheap underwear from walmart for this purpose and i just changed our bed sheets to some cheap ones i don't mind ruining, lol. I also have stool softener though i didn't need it last time. But that reminds me that maybe i should get nipple cream too ( I didn't need it last time and returned it, but doesn't mean this time will be the same!). We don't plan to give a pacifier or pump for the first 6 weeks, but i do have those things on hand.

My due date is in one week and I've realized all my to do lists will likely not get done, so i am prioritizing. I started going through all my recent gifts and purchases to wash newborn clothes etc and i started to go through DS1's baby stuff i have stored. I am wondering what do i need to make sure i absolutely have available in the first few weeks postpartum? Everything else i can find or buy later, but in those first few weeks, i don't want to have be searching for or missing stuff.

What i have thought of so far is:

FOR BABY:
newborn and size 1 diapers
wipes & diaper cream/vaseline
diaper genie with refills
newborn and 0-3 month clothes/sleepers
nursing pillow
burp cloths
glider
swing
play mat for tummy time
baby carriers that can be used from birth
bassinet and bassinet mattress sheets
swaddle blankets
winter gear (snow suit, winter hat)
car seat installed

FOR MOM:
pads
nursing tanks
breast pads
extra water bottles

what am i missing?
