Are you staying for a few days? I was able to get a 4 day ticket for the price of 3, so we ended up at the park on the day of arrival for "free".

Downtown Disney is fun, lots to see, eat, and shop. The character dining at the Disney hotels is great (we like the breakfast buffet at the Paradise Pier Hotel and there is always a huge crowd at the Character dining at the Ca Lodge Hotel). Simply walking through the CA Lodge hotel is an experience in its own (we went one year during Xmas and hung out in their lobby, drank hot cocoa, and listened to their piano player). I won't lie, it will be super tempting to just get an extra day ticket when you are right there and missing out on the action:(

I think your only option without a car is Downtown Disney, but it should be enough to fill up an evening. There is usually live music on weekends, lots of dining options... the kids might enjoy Rainforest Cafe!... there is a huge World of Disney store, Build a Bear, and even a movie theater.

I've never been there but my 4th and 5th grade students loved Knotts Berry Farm.

@Mrs. Microscope: Thanks! Definitely going to explore Downtown Disney but wasn't sure how big the downtown area is and if there is enough to do to fill up an evening. Glad to hear it's fun though!!!

Downtown Disney really is a fun place! Lots of other dining options other than character meals. Have fun!

Need help planning our itinerary! We'll probably get to our Disneyland good neighbor hotel between 2-3pm (after a four hour flight and a one hour drive). We won't be going to the actual park until the next day. I'm not sure what to do near the park other than Downtown Disney. I was considering making a reservation at Goofy's Kitchen but then I also kind of wanted to do character dining at Minnie and Friends at Disneyland Park the next day...and I don't want to do BOTH. We won't have a car so everything has to be walking distance. We will be traveling with a 4 year old and 1.5 year old. Any tips and suggestions on what to do the first day you arrive at Disney (but not visiting the park)?
