@looch: I like this idea because picking up/arranging food for after the ceremony is always a headache!

We usually send flowers to the funeral home for services and a food basket to the home.

Will they be hosting people back at the house after the service? If so, I'd call a local supermarket to send a deli tray and rolls.

I would send a heartfelt card and possibly a GC for food. I hated dealing with all the plants/flowers when my mom died.

I used to suggest food, but now that I deal with an allergy and DH is diabetic, I'd only send food if you're aware of dietary restrictions or lack thereof.

Something that's not often thought of that can be helpful is disposable dishes/cutlery so they don't have to do dishes.

I recently sent a family a basket from Wolfermans--flavored butters and English muffins. I included a note that we hoped they could enjoy a quiet family breakfast together and share happy memories of their loved one.

ETA: another idea is a flowering bush--delivered to her home. A beautiful gift she can enjoy each year as it blooms.

My husband's only uncle (his dad's only sibling) passed away unexpectedly yesterday. We can't go to the funeral because of obligations here. We want to send something. Do we send flowers to the funeral home? To his aunt? Send something else?

His cousins are all up there so his aunt has support. Since we can't be there, we want to send something. Thoughts? Suggestions?
