We usually sleep on just sleeping bags on the floor of the tent lol. It ALWAYS makes my back hurt, but for some reason I forget about this when we're trying to pack light (we go portaging) and we decide not to bring any mattress or pad.

Queen sized air mattress and two sleeping bags (we use one as our "bottom sheet" and the other as the "top sheet" and zip them together. So cozy). Oh, and pillows. :D

we have an air mattress pad and a sleeping bag. The floor where we go camping is rocky and cold so we needed the extra protection

Queen sized air mattress from
Costco. Soooo comfortable - it's just like sleeping on a regular bed. I usually put two thick layers of blankets down (no sleeping bag) and use a down comforter. This way you stay warm all night. We used this set up when we took our 16 month old camping and she was warm and cozy all night.

I've slept with just a sleeping bag, a thin mattress pad thing, and air mattress. Of course, air mattress was the most comfortable, but for a few nights, any of them would have been okay!

I have done everything from a rock, to dirt, to thermarests, zrests, air pads, air mattresses, a memory foam mattress, cots. I recommend a thermarest type pad.

I have slept on hardwood and grass. You name it, I've (tried to sleep) slept on it!

I'm planning our first camping trip this spring/summer. Growing up my mom always laid out multiple layers of blankets on the tent floor. We never used sleeping bags.

I know some people use air mattresses, but everyone in our family is comfortable sleeping on the floor, so I think I will just go the multiple blankets route. I don't want to buy sleeping bags because we really don't have storage space for anything extra.
