@JoyfulKiwi: and @Mrs Green Grass: that's what I was thinking the more I thought of the schedule. I told my principal I would see how it would go at home while I trying my "schedule". I think I'm just going to have her cover my class for 20 min at 9;30 so I can pump then.

@Anagram: I'll definitely check that out!!! Thanks!

@Adira: I know! I was glad when she offered to watch my kids for that morning session.

@Jennimac: I work in a middle school and the 9:30, 12:30, 3:30 schedule sounds great. I'm an exclusive pumper and I'm down to five times a day total now, so I just pump twice at school.

Also: two words: Dairy Fairy bra. They are pricey, and not super supportive---but NONE of my nursing bras are supportive so there's no change there. It's a bra that is both a real bra, a pumping bra, AND a nursing bra. I'm like....probably a size E now and I got the large and really like it.

I also have the hands free pumping bra, but I have to use it with the straps, so I still have to get totally undressed on top to put it on and pump which is awkward in a school setting. The dairy fairy bra allows me to lose the step of taking off one bra and putting on another.

I think you'll need someone to cover your class in the morning. I know it would be extremely stressful, but they have to help you out. Otherwise, they could let you off lunch duty and you would definitely have to pump at 7. I know it seems like you'll be putting everyone out, but it won't be that long in the long run - even if it is most of the year.

@Jennimac: that last schedule sounded good. I teach & nursed at 6:45, pumped 10:40/12:30/3:15, nursed at 4:30 & before bed. As time went on I was able to pump during my commute in the car & less sessions during the school day.

@Adira: so I talked to my principal and I think I can swing a pump around 9:30. So what I'm looking at is pumping in the morning before school and after LO nurses, 9:30, 12:30, and 3:30. Then pick up LO.

@Jennimac: I would definitely talk to your principal and see if you can be exempt from either the lunch or the recess in order to pump and explain that you really can't go 5 hours between pumping (7:30 to 12:30) without it affecting your ability to provide milk for your baby and ask what they would suggest. Maybe offer to pick up more recess duties in order to be exempt from the lunch? Or maybe you can just be exempt from the Friday recess in order to use that time to pump ever day?

@Adira: we have to do lunch duty and sit there while the kids are eating. So, I'm not thinking it's an option. I need to talk to my principal about it, though.

So you're saying you can't pump during your lunch? That would probably be the best time to do it. If not, I would definitely try to pump at 7:30 and then 12:30. And if your LO is getting a bottle around 3:00, I'd probably pump at 3:45 before picking him/her up so you're not going from 12:30 - 6:00 without pumping/nursing.

Depending on your boobs, you can go 5 hours without pumping (7:30 to 12:30). I do it (6:00 to 11:00), but it all depends on how long you can go before your body gets the signal to stop producing. And I'd pump as many times as your LO is taking a bottle, even if the times don't line up!

Good luck!! <3

So, this morning it hit me that I have less than a month until I go back to work. I need to start thinking about my pumping schedule and get some bm stashed away. LO is eating a lot and I worry about having enough. We have been doing a bottle of formula at night because LO has such an appetite, so I'm okay with LO having formula, but I'd like to do bm as long as I can.

Right now I've been pumping at least once a day at home. I know that I need to pump if its been 3-4 hours since LO has eaten. My class schedule is not to conducive to pumping. This is what I've come up with so far. I haven't talked to my principal yet and I'd like to have an idea of what I want before I go back.

Wake-up 5:45-6 am-nurse LO
Get ready/pump again?
7:10 leave for school/sitter meets at school/drop off LO
7:30-possible pump time (worried about people coming in-teachers going over stuff, etc)
7:45-11:20 kids in classroom
11:20-11:55 lunch (I have to stay in there)
11:55-12:25 recess (I have duty on Friday)
12:30-1:20 planning time (best opportunity to pump)
1:20-3:20 kids in classroom
3:45 can leave and go pick up LO.

So experienced pumpers, what do you suggest I do? I'm lucky that I can pump in my room because I have a private bathroom and can lock the door.
