This might be unpopular... can you take out a second mortgage on your house? (If you have a house that is)

Here are some of the loans. This site has all of them listed in one place. I think the interest is calculated on your payment plan. So if you pay the minimum each month, the interest will be higher, but if you pay more per month, the interest is fairly low 5-10 percent at the most. Here you go: http://www.affordingivf.com/2012/12/20/financing-options-for-in-vitro-fertilization/

Edit: I should add that Springstone (listed first there I think) is highly regarded. I had a co-worker who was going to use them for an IVF loan (then family helped out so she didn't need it) and her RE office gave out those brochures. So I would look at them first if you decide you need to get a loan. Check reviews, do research of course, but I think they are pretty good.

I don't mind grants/loans/scholarships as long as it doesn't come from tax payer money.

@just_ju: There aren't a ton but the ones I found give multiple ones away per year, so it's something to try.

@Jenn23: Where did you find low interest loans? Most of the IVF related loans I found had rates of like 17%.

@MrsMccarthy: I do wish that there was a better understanding and healthcare sitution in palce for infertility, like Europe. It's bad enough people have to go through this, it shouldn't also cost them their life savings.

@bluestriped bee: These are the two I found that have the least restrictions: http://babyquestfoundation.org/ http://www.payitforwardfertility.org/

@MrsTal: @lazypanda: I knew there were grants for adoption costs but didn't realize there were grants for IVF. If you could share the link, I would to love to read more about it. I doubt I will qualify but good to know for others.

I just want to send you lots of love and luck! It is my full belief that our country should function more like Europe where IVF is not something that is going to break you. Particularly since having a child costs enough on its own. I hope you qualify for a grant and we see you pregnant in the near future.

So sorry to hear. I didn't even know there are grants available. We used our savings for IVF, but if we hadn't had enough money, we would have taken out one of the infertility low-interest loans to pay for IVF .It sucks no matter how you look at it! Sorry. :( Hope you can come up with something!

I also have been looking into grants and scholarships, and I've come to realize that there really aren't many available. Unless I didn't dig enough (and I did a lot of digging), I only came across 4 that are available nationwide.

@lazypanda: Most of the grants say the fee is to help them provide these grants and pay for the paperwork and processing, which I totally respect. There isn't a research hospital connected to our RE. We have looked at clinical trials but the closest one is two hours away and after going over the ivf schedule I don't think that would be possible,

@MrsTal: I was thinking of what grants/scholarships were available while reading @bluestriped bee's post about resolve & what it would take to get that going. Does the grant explain why you have to spend $50 to apply? I recall reading some posters mentioning about studies they can participate in that will decrease the cost of treatment. Is there a research university connected to an RE in your area?

With IVF looking imminent for us, we are scrambling to figure out how to afford it. I started researching grants, loans, and scholarships. Most of the grants I found had a $50 application fee, which isn't a ton but every penny counts with infertility treatments. It feels like a bit of a gamble. I jokingly told my husband maybe we would be better off taking $50 to the casino and trying out our luck there. Most of the scholarships are limited by an income cap, which we don't qualify for. We make decent money but obviously don't have $10,000 lying around. So that's sort of frustrating. Then there are loans, which I hate the idea of, because we have been fighting tooth and nail to pay off all our debt/live debt free.

So what do you think? Is there any great way to pay for infertility treatments when you don't have coverage?
