The immunological benefits of breastfeeding are really time specific. Like, you get a cold, make the antibodies, feed them to your child, and she doesn't get it as badly. They don't really apply to whatever she's fighting off a few months from now. So from purely that standpoint, it really doesn't make a difference.

how long do you need to be on the antibiotic? Are you planning on weaning for good, or will you continue to pump and dump during the course of the medication?

ETA: I just re-read your post - if you are pumping+dumping, I'd go with the "more breast milk but done by month 3". If not, then I guess the 2nd option... I hope you are pumping and dumping....

I voted less BM for longer. I think 4oz a day is enough for your LO to get the benefits of BM.

I don't know but I've wondered the exact same thing since you hear that any amount of BM provides benefits.... Hopefully someone can help!

I can't find any research on this, but what do you think is better from an immunological stand? I pump about 13-15 oz/day only and need to take some non-breastmilk-safe antibiotics sometime in the near future. So we are weighing the options. Currently I give 3 formula bottles at night and all her day feedings are breastmilk.

More bottles of breastmilk/day, but you run out by month 3 or so.

One 4 oz bottle of breastmilk/day, but you have enough frozen to give one bottle past 6 months (incorporating more formula by week 6).

LO is 4 weeks tomorrow
