Sounds good to me! We got a sectional from Ashley for $800. It seats 6-7 comfortably.

@Turtledoves: Thank you so much! We are really excited about the move but of course we're looking forward to just being there instead of preparing for it. Moving is hard... especially with a changing body!

I think that's very reasonable. We have 2 couch sets in our house...one in the living room and one in the family room....and the living room set was over $4,500 while the family room was under 1,500. Obviously the family room is super casual. It all depends on what you're going for. Congratulations on your new home!

I don't think that sounds like a lot. When my husband and I moved into our house, we bought a Rowe sectional w/a chaise lounge (our old couch was from my husband's bachelor days and it was the most uncomfortable piece of furniture ever). It was around $2,700 and one of the best investments we ever made. We spent a lot of time at home on the weekends because our son is little so to me it was a worth every penny based on the amount of use we get out of it.

@Meggo5: I know what you mean! I hate the feeling of having to write a big check/pay a bill. I know that it's necessary but I have to laugh at myself for how I feel when I do it!

@Shimmer: me too! I call it frugal, my husband calls it something else :( I know that I will have to spend a certain amount to gets something that will hopefully last, but it just hurts to spend it all at once.

Sounds fair. We got a really basic one on clearance for $800 and the ottoman was free and it's really only the loveseat of a set (though we made it look like a set by being creative with the ottoman).
Couches can be really expensive but worth it--the cheap ones get uncomfy so quickly!

seems pretty reasonable to me. some are cheaper, but because they're cheap! if it's something you think will last & you like it, i'd say make the investment.

If it's a good quality couch set, then I'd say you did a pretty good job! I'm *really* frugal, but for things that should last for years, I'm all for spending a little bit more to get quality pieces.

... on a couch? We have been in the market for a new couch for a few years now since our dog shortened our current couch's life! We are just about to move to our new home and decided that we will abandon the old couch and get a new one for the new home and had a really tough time picking one out.

Well, we finally bit the bullet today and bought a new living room set, a floor sample. It is not perfect, but it seems to be the best of what we could find. And the best part is that it was so ridiculously reduced and that helped to push me to make a decision! I was amazed at the variation in pricing of couches and, as we are on a pretty tight budget with the new house, we tried to stay at the lower end. Wound up coming in right under $2,000 (originally $4,000) for a 3 seater couch, a BIG comfy matching chair, an accent chair, and an ottoman (not really my style, but oh well). I feel like this is a steal, but not sure as it still seems like a lot of money to spend on a couch!
