First-- it's a lottery. By definition is it governed by chance, without any source of discrimination. </p> <p>If you want a chance to win, you should buy a ticket. However, just because you are poor does not mean that you should get a bigger chance to win. </p> <p>I also don't mind the lottery as tax. Yes, it is true that people with less income tend to buy more tickets. However, that is free will. The outcome of the lottery money is not hidden, and it is generally understood that that money is going somewhere (government/education). If you CHOOSE to buy a ticket, then you are CHOOSING to spend your money in that way. The odds are so terrible and yet people play all the time. If everyone saved that $1 spent every week it would may help them with actual needs.
