@jetsa: we are renting because its way cheaper than investing in a stash of diapers we will only need for 8 weeks. We are getting 36 BG AIOs for like $80.

@jetsa: I'm not renting, per say, but my city has a diaper delivery service that I'm planning on using during the newborn period. I thought it would be nice to not have to worry about washing diapers when I'm learning the ropes of parenting and I don't want to use disposables if I can help it.

@blackbird: @evansjamie: We are doing all freetimes but instead of a rental we bought BG nb some used and I'm sure we'll get some new. They resell at about $10 per diaper. I'm curious as to why you chose to rent your newborn diapers? What am I missing?

I like the Freetimes that we have - they're not my favourite, but DH prefers them and they work well at night. I like the Fuzzi Bunz one size elite, I think they're a lot trimmer and I like pockets best.

If you are worried about hang to dry space i would not rec an aio as you have to hang dry the whole thing. With the flips and bg4.0s i use, I can dryer dry the inserts in an hour, and all my covers fit on a very small drying rack and are usually dry in about 6 hrs.

@MrsCB: Yes and yes! I think the Freetimes will be great eventually from what I've read, but maybe not for newborn size. They told us this weekend to not expect them to fit before around 12 lbs. And they have a rental program where they give you 8 dipes for $35 to try out for 2 weeks I think to see which fit best, and then when you bring them back I think you can use $15 toward a credit to buy new ones. You should call them or go visit and discuss the options, they are a great resource. They also told us their return policy is only 90 days so if we were to buy them now (33 weeks), by the time the policy expired LO would only be like 4 weeks old and not fitting into them anyway, so we are holding off buying our stash. Our NB AIO rental goes for 8 weeks with the option to extend to 12 weeks if we need them to, so we'll just go back to Diaper Lab when we're closer to needing our own stash. I feel lucky we have a store like that nearby so we don't have to make all these decisions 'alone'!

ETA Diaper lab actually also has their own newborn rental program, but I didn't like the terms as much as the one we picked.

Our baby didnt fit into Freetimes until around 4 weeks. He wore newborn BGs, Rumparooz, and fitteds/covers before then.

I think my husband likes the Freetimes the best, but I prefer 4.0s (by a slight margin). We dry the inserts in the dryer, so 4.0s don't take up any more room. This way, the 4.0s dry a lot faster.

We are doing a newborn rental (bumgenius AIOs) and then plan to transition to Freetimes whenever LO is big enough. So curious to follow what other people think. The CD store near us said not to buy them now, but wait until LO is big enough and then rent a couple to see fit. I'm also not excited about the poop/flap situation but we are planning on using liners after 6 months so hoping that will help.

I like the free times fine so far (4 months) but even though my LO gained weight quick And was pretty chunky the OS didn't fit him until probably 2.5 months. I had prefolds fitteds and aios in newborn sizes and really only liked the aios. The covers rubbed his umbilical cord even with the cut out and it was just so much bulk around his tiny bottom. For LO #2 ill be buying more Nb Aios - so that's what I think is best and easiest!

@mrs. bird: Ooh good question.

Maybe I should just get 4.0s instead. We just don't have a ton of space for hanging things to dry, so I thought the Freetimes might work better.

we have one and it is not my favorite. I find the flaps a pain to deal with and the poop....i have not found a half decent way to get all the poop off both flaps!

I love our 4.0s though!

We're planning on CDing and for the newborn stage I plan to use fitteds and covers for the most part, but I think it would be useful to have some AIOs around.

I've been doing some research and am considering getting BumGenius Freetimes. Extra bonus, we have a ton of BBB coupons that need to get used and they have a ton in stock there.

So do you like your Freetimes? When were you able to start using them? Would I be better off just getting some newborn sized AIOs?
