Seriously though, walking through other people's smoke isn't fun whether it be cigarette or pot, it bothers me a little if it's just me but a lot if DD is the one breathing it in. Even worse than smoke in my opinion is the stench of urine on the streets. I think it would bother me a lot more if I had no choice but to walk through it. Sometimes when we’re outside we catch a whiff of it but no one ever really smokes it publicly. I wouldn’t like it because it gives me a massive headache. I was in the grocery store last night and I walked past a guy who reeked of it and the headache that followed was not fun. Although everyone was searched on the way in, tons of people were smoking pot. We decided that was one of the many reasons we wouldn't bring our LO to an event like that. </p> <p>It was a rock concert, for the record, not a folk festival. I mean, the city is the city and to a certain extent we can't expect it to change much just because we now have children and our priorities have changed. My friend was having a party in the afternoon at a bar with outside seating so we brought the baby for a couple of hours. I think smoking in general is gross. If it's something I can quickly pass by, then I wouldn't ever say anything. I live in Florida, so people definitely aren't as open with it here, so I'd never be walking through a cloud of smoke or anything. And to me, it's a lot less offensive (and a lot less toxic and physically harmful, honestly) than second-hand cigarette smoke. The ingredient in pot is pot. You are worried about the secondhand smoke impacts on your LOs, but, for those smokers, they aren't allowed (whether by actual rules or by common courtesy) to smoke indoors. So really, they already are in the most courteous place to do their smoking. (I'm trying to form this argument from the perspective if legalization were to occur, which is a possibility in some states in the not so distant future). I don't think there's a medical risk from quickly walking through a cloud of pot smoke, so you and the LOs are probably okay, just as long as you don't sit near a group of smokers at the park. Especially on 4/20 ;) While a fun past time, my husband and I feel that we have way to much to lose these days to partake, but the smell on our walks brings back good times. </p> <p>We went to Venice Beach the first day of our honeymoon while waiting for a flight and you couldn't walk two feet without smelling pot. Before I had kids, I was mildly annoyed by the practice; I actually support legalization, but think it's just common courtesy to not smoke pot in a public area.</p> <p>But now that I have kids, I get much more upset. I'm stroller napping Charlie right now (darn jet lag), and we just walked through a huge cloud of pot smoke. Turns out some neighbors are toking up on their stoop. Last night, I walked through a crowd of about 8 people who were all smoking pot in the middle of the sidewalk. They were blocking the entire sidewalk so there was no way around them.</p> <p>Both nights Charlie passed out shortly after, so maybe a whiff of pot smoke is his sleep cue. I'm annoyed though. Even if all 8 people have medical marijuana prescriptions, I wish they wouldn't smoke in sidewalks and on stoops. Still I have to admit, smoking outdoors during a nice balmy evening is probably a much better experience for them!</p> <p>What do you think of people smoking marijuana on the sidewalks as they walk (or hang out) around the city? Has your answer changed since you had kids? </p>
