We lived in a German-speaking country for 5 years and all the similar names that ended in E were pronounced that way. My son had a Marlene in his class last year and it was pronounced Mar-len-uh, I thought it sounded so pretty that way. A Louise was pronounced more like Louisa. His mom was born in German and he has a bunch of German relatives and studied German in high school.
