I would stay away from ASS, but I think Gabriel is fine...maybe because my Mom had two miscarriages before me and still gave me the name they had picked out the first time.

If you are ok with using Gabriel twice, then do it! Unless maybe you have a bunch of stuff around the house for the first Gabriel. That could be a little confusing.

Oh, don't do ASS. The kids will find out and torture her!

Also, unless the rules are yours, I don't see why you have to have equally feminine or masculine names. All that matters is that you guys like them!

I wouldn't do the ASS thing but I think it's fine to reuse Gabriel. Don't worry, you have plenty of time! I'm sure you will find the perfect names.

If you already refer to an angel child by the name Gabriel then I wouldn't use it again. I love the name Avery (I think it works better as a girl name but it is a unisex name) but it is becoming too popular for my taste.

I think using Gabriel is fine as long as it won't bring up bad memories for you. I loved the name Julia and had settled on it if our first baby was a girl. When we had a miscarriage, I wasn't sure if I could then use Julia again, but since I didn't know the sex of that baby, I think it's OK. Hopefully, this makes sense ;)

I'd stay away from anything that spelled ASS though...

When I think Avery I think boy, not girl. In my head it is much more masculine than feminine (though maybe my vote shouldn't count since I have a girl named Quinn! I like gender ambiguous names :) )

I vote for Sue for a middle name, keep the tradition alive. You'll find a girl name that you like that doesn't start with A. 8 generations is a long time!

@Sugar.Biscuit: wasn't his name Jackson Avery- I think it was his last name?

I think it's totally fine if you want to use it for a boy, obviously that's totally up to you. But I think there is the potential for gender confusion. On ssa.gov Avery for is boy is ranked #137 and for a girl it is #13. So yes, it is a boys name too.

Second choice middle name for Avery is Marie after my MIL... BUT using sue is a tradition in our family & that would make it 8 generation. Also if we never end up having anymore kids non of the grandkids would be named after our family. You would think by having two kids your choices would be covered.

Also for those against Avery as a boy name, Avery is the hunk off Grey's Anatomy. It can soooo be used as a boy name. I think another bee named her boy Avery a few months ago.

I like Avery as a girl, never heard it for a boy. I also like Gabriel and think its fine to use :)

I as well would guard against ASS. I have a friend that nearly did that, but loved the name so much that instead they switched the first and middle name. So it was SAS and they just called their son by their middle name. In your case it would be Sue Avery and you could still call her Avery.

Middle school would be cruel to a kid with the initials ASS.

It's up to you to use your angel baby name. Years ago, it was normal. My grandfather's name is Robert, but he was the second Robert, because one baby passed away before he was born. On the other hand, it's not as common these days...I'm always sad that a name I loved is on a baby that passed away, but I couldn't bring myself to use it again. But, it's whatever you are comfortable with.

I wouldn't worry about being gender specific with names, though.

Gabriel & Avery if we have 2 boys I think it would work. But what about B/G? I read where you should have equally feminine or male names. If they are both unisex names that's okay but not recommended.

We have already used Gabriel for our angel baby but both love the name for a take home baby as well. Would it make us bad parents to use it twice?

I always end up saying more than I expected...Also if we have a girl i have a problem using a name that starts with the letter A. Her initials would end up being ASS as we are going to use Sue for a middle name. Would that hold you back?
