And btw, Noa Elizabeth is beautiful.

(I love Willa, I have a Willa, but Willa Elizabeth is too heavy on the 'l' sound).

I LOVE Noa for a girl. Love it. A dear friend of mine has a baby girl named Noa and everyone loves it. I know it has a history (not just a boy name being stolen and used for girls) and I've never heard anyone raise their eye brows or ask how to spell it. It's beautiful!

@loki: Is it pronounced like: Noah, Noe, Now? That would be my only issue. I'm guessing "Noah"?? I love how it looks, and no matter if it's pronounced the other ways I asked, I still love it! Ha.

@autumnleaves: Oh thanks for chiming in! I had heard it was super common in Israel - everyone I have told about the name didn't know it was a popular Hebrew girl's name! I've been educating people haha. I love the idea of it being less common because I was Lisa T my WHOLE life.

Noa is the name of one of my sisters. We were born in Israel where it is very common but lived most of our lives in the US. Depending on how diverse the community she is in, she may get a lot of questions on how to pronounce the name or it's origin and people may then think she's Jewish. Usually she can get by with just her first name because there are very very very few women where we lived named Noa.
It's a beautiful name.

@loki: Cohen is a sacred priestly name (and a last name in my family actually), so it's a little different than other Hebrew names. Think of it as naming your child Jesus or Mohammed while not believing in them. Here's an article: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2009/05/05/the-big-baby-naming-battle.html

I think other Hebrew names wouldn't cause anyone to bat an eye.

@Mrs. Jacks: i love Yael too! Question for you... is it offensive for people who are not Jewish to use this name? I remember seeing a thread on WeddingBee about the name Cohen and I had no idea it was offensive so I want to be sensitive to that! Be honest!

@loki: it's her Hebrew name, so we don't use it in regular parlance too often, and when we do, we use it in circles that generally know how it is spelled. What I love about it is that it's very short and easy to correct people on... So it's not like spelling out a ten letter name. N-O-A. Everyone gets it on the first try. Yael (our other daughter's Hebrew name) is a bit tougher, on the other hand ;)

@Mrs. Jacks: oh yay i was hoping someone with a daughter named Noa would chime in! I imagine in certain circles it isn't uncommon at all and when people know your daughter is named Noa, they know how to spell it? Do you have to spell it for her often?

I think it's really pretty! And I love the meaning

We have to constantly spell our street name because it's three separate words. It's annoying, and she'll always have to spell it for people, but my point is that if you name her something easy to spell, she could still have to spell things for people - like an annoying address- and you didn't save her from any inconvenience! So I don't think that really matters and you just have to go with what you like and not worry about simplifying for other people's sake. It's a beautiful name!

ETA: I have a super common name - like crazy common - and I always get asked "One or two n's?" People need clarification even for super easy names

I really love it, and the other names you've picked. I immediately read it as a girl's name, despite knowing little Noahs. And for what it's worth, my name is Jessica and I still have to spell it for people more than you'd think was really necessary. Noa is short if she does have to spell it out for people. I love your naming style!

I like it for a girl more than a boy because it's so overused for a boy!! I think it's different and pretty. I have a common name with multiple spellings and spell my name all the time. Simple last name and still spell it all the time. My son's name is similar to another boys name so I'm frequently correcting his name or the spelling. I don't think that's a reason to not use the name.
