I think they will continue to market toward younger generations and let their original customer base drop off. I know as i get older and dont go out party/bar hopping on the weekend I post less and less.

With our pregnancy still under wraps i think about how i want to handle social media as it becomes less of a secret. Over the past few weeks I have been unfriending anyone who i no longer see/communicate with in real life. I have dramatically decreased the number of pictures/album i've posted and untagged myself from as many photos as i could. I've tightened my security as well.

We've decided to not make the pregnancy facebook public and i will threaten friends and family that if they post things on FB i will be deleting the post and unfriending them as well. This may seem harsh but i no longer reap the benefits i once did and i feel like i'm only going to have a short window of my little ones life before they begin to show an interest in creating their own social media.

I don't think it will fade away like MySpace and hi5, it will stay popular but get more and more intrusive and annoying

@littlebittyhouse: no, I agree. I kind of miss when Facebook was a bit more up-and-coming, and not as overpopulated. Now and everyone and their mom (literally) is on Facebook.

My college had to petition to be allowed on FB! Facebook was pretty new when I was a college sophomore and I think I was a senior by the time I was able to join. At the time, only my college network could see my profile. Now everything is public (unless you change it). I miss the simplicity of things.

I think something better will come out and FB will be like myspace. Irrelevant for most, still popular for some because I think it'll be hard for people to part ways with FB because of ALL the pictures that have been uploaded.

I think it's too big to fade into obscurity at this point. I imagine it'll go the way of Google, ie keeping its same basic service (social networking) and ironing out kinks as the market changes, but expanding into who-knows-what other services.

Good question. I have been increasingly disappointed that it is becoming more ads, memes, and 'like this photo' if you agree. I'm not sure if I am the only one that feels like this? Unless someone comes up with a better equally as accepted by so many generations social media tool I hunk it will always be in the background as a site for ppl to look up people they just met and to share photos. Interested to hear what other have to say.

Will it have a resurgence in popularity? Will it just keep buying the Next Big Thing, like they did with Instagram? Will it eventually fade into obscurity... but remain relevant as the place where people look up the names of people they just met at a party?

Basically, wondering what you guys think will happen to Facebook in 3-5 years...
