I don't use anything, crazy as that sounds. For legos, he typically keeps them built once they are done.

For some small toys (tsum tsum and shopkins) I put them in a clear tackle box! Legos I have 8x11 type clear plastic bins that have lids that snap on. We still have plenty of stray toys/pieces and it drives me crazy!

We use these for everything. They make a few sizes so we use them for everything from matchbox cars to play doh containers to legos.

Gosh. DH bought a shit load of legos for DS for Christmas. And I mean 1000 pieces for $30 (amazon black friday deal or something), AND a few more boxes of lego cities and trains and stuff. We literally have to quickly sort out /transform a spare room into a playroom to prepare for the "storm".

We bought 2 of these IKEA shelves last weekend:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20275885/

And then we bought these that fits into the slots:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006VPLR7S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BH9A82M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They don't fit snuggly into the ikea shelf slots, but at least they fit.

I am thinking we can use the tostitos salsa jars we saved, put legos in them, and put them in the amazon drawers. Actually I haven't tested if the salsa jars fit into the drawers. oops lol

Hahahaha. We'll test out if this whole thing works after xmas.

I don't think these are exactly what you are looking for, but these are my favorite storage solution for small toys. They can be used for lego sets when you get to real legos. I use them for puzzles, craft supplies, shrinks dinks, etc. I mainly use the small ones, but te big ones are great too. They are durable and see through. http://www.containerstore.com/s/zippered-vinyl-mesh-pouches/d?productId=10005003&q=Zipper

@erinbaderin: you found the thomas minis advent calendar!? yay! we need to invest in a case or bin that latches closed for the thomas minis at our house. they end up everywhere.

right now they are just in small bins but we need something better. duplos are in lego storage blocks and we'll use those for regular legos when we get to that stage. they aren't cheap but we like they way they look.

We have a lot of Thomas minis and I keep them in a little plastic case that latches closed. I'm going to need to upgrade it, though, because with the Thomas minis Advent calendar his collection is going to be too big. For his Duplo and train tracks we have dedicated fabric bins.

Things like Legos, Shopkins, small figures/plastic animals etc...what do you use to organize them? Do they stay organized, for the most part? I'm talking really tiny toys with a million parts!
