We don't even have a playroom, so the toys everywhere drive me nuts! In our family room (main gathering area), she has a table & chairs and a Storagepalooza from Land of Nod. I try to keep each compartment with like items. I tried doing the clear toy shoeboxes to keep other small like items together, but I end up using them as catchalls to put things back where they belong when we cleanup. I keep art supplies in these IKEA metal containers tucked inside the entertainment center, crayons are always out on the table.
We also have large decorative baskets tucked in a few different corners around the house to stash toys.

In what used to be our formal living room, her big toys are in the corner, including her play kitchen. I keep accessories in a metal crate "groceries." I just had to do a major purge last week.

@HappyBaker: I feel like I need to purge weekly, but we don't even get new toys that often so I'm stumped! I think it all just ends up getting mixed in so seems like there's more because it's a hot mess.

Following! We have two tall bookcases and a toy box but things aren't very organized within them so there is stuff everywhere at all times. I think I need more bins / boxes and to purge (again)

Last year I went through and grouped toys and put them into containers with lids. So all little people are together, blocks are together, cars are together etc. I keep those things stacked in the playroom closet (wish the closet was bigger!) We also have a toy box for bigger random toys and then a cube shelf which has four bins that hold tiny odds and ends, doll accessories, dress up clothes and then character toys. The other four cubes hold books and smaller toys. It's all great but that literally takes up every inch of storage space in the playroom. Christmas is coming and having toys all over will drive me crazy. I went through and purged already but I think I need another way to organize the rest that doesn't take up too much space. We do have picture ledges for books which really helps as well.

I'm just looking for other toy organization ideas that maybe I'm not already thinking of, I know we have some creative bees around here!
