It doesn't matter to me what happens,since I won't be there. I would like to leave some instructions so that my kids don't spend a too much money on a coffin though. I think it's outrageous that you spend $1000s or $10000 for a box that is going in the ground. People do odd things to grieve though.</p> <p>I would prefer to not have an open casket or even have my body there at all. I just think once someone has passed, they aren't their body, and it's just weird to gather around like that. If my close family and friends want to have a simple graveside service when I am buried for closure, that's fine, but I'd rather my memorial service not take place at a funeral home and not have my dead body sitting there in the middle of the room, with everyone saying, "She looks so peaceful." I want my funeral to be about hope and peace in knowing that I'm in Heaven and we'll be together again someday. I want there to be great music, tears (happy and sad) because I feel like funerals are one of the few places people allow themselves to cry which I feel is often an important part of grieving, I want the weather to be nice and sunny even though I know there's no way to control that. Afterwards, I want my family to have an awesome potluck meal and laugh and make new memories and take pictures and relish the time spent with family. Some of my fondest memories with my extended families are from funerals because we all come together and remember what's truly important.</p> <p>ETA: Under no circumstances should there be ANY pictures taken of my dead body. I have a great uncle who always tries to take pictures during the actual funeral ceremony and take pictures of the body to "remember that person by". Umm sorry, but no. She had melanoma which they treated, but a year later suddenly it had spread. Within a month, she passed away--It was a very fast process. When hospice was there, she told everyone that no one was allowed to wear black to her funeral! So the entire family wore bright spring colors instead of black to honor her amazing life and sweet personality. As I got dressed in black this morning I thought that I would love it if everybody wore pink to my funeral. Boys included! Or all colors of the rainbow. I'm not a fan of black. I want to be burried, not cremated, and in the ground. My grandpa is in one of those things that is in the wall, and that creeps me out. Jews leave rocks in the grave instead of flowers, and I'd like people to paint the rocks so they're pretty first. </p>
