I have found that most of my current wardrobe works for nursing, except for some dressier tops that I wouldn't wear around the baby anyway. My solution was to just buy a nursing poncho (or, in a pinch, use an A&A swaddle blanket) and throw that on on top and then lift up my shirt underneath.

Then again, this is a great excuse if you need one to go shopping! :)

This is what I hate most about nursing! It's so annoying that I can't wear my regular clothes unless they allow for boob access.

I wear a lot of tank tops with something layered over them (cardigan, flannel shirt, etc), t-shirts that button down and long-sleeve t-shirts with stretchy necks. Lots from Uniqlo which is great for solid basics (http://www.uniqlo.com/us/). I also have a few nursing tops, but I'm tired of wearing them by now and only wear them on lazy days.

@glimmersnaps: Unfortunately it won't let me see the dress. It gives me some sort of 400 error. Boo :( But I'll look online for your criteria!

@ladyfingers: I will have to check both of those out!

There's an outlet mall just down the road from where I live now but I haven't checked it out in over a year. Apparently there's a lot of good stuff over there, according to my MIL and SIL. Looking at the list, we've got things like Aeorpostal, Ann Taylor Factory Store, Dressbarn, Eddie Bauer Outlet, Gap outlet, Guess Factory Outlet, Lane Bryant outlet, Loft outlet, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Tommy Hilfiger, and half a dozen others.

Maybe I should go exploring?

Anything slightly baggy (but with shape) or flowy that I can easily pull up. I'll pull my nursing tank down and with a flowier top it will easily drape down over my top boob. I've had good luck finding cute casual slouchy tops at old navy and drapier, dressier tops with more structure at LOFT.

After DS was born I quickly realized this and put away every single dress or shirt that I couldn't nurse in. I felt like I would rather have it out of my sight than see it and be tempted to wear it and frustrated if I couldn't nurse.

I slowly rebuilt my wardrobe with button up, zip down, or low-neck shirts that I could pull down. I also wear a scarf so that helps keep things covered too.

For summer I'd look for dresses with a crisscross top part. (like this http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=93357&vid=1&pid=387525022) Shirt dresses are cute too and I've seen several around.

Bravado nursing tanks with a hoodie or flowy cardigan. I lived in them for 9 months and never wore regular clothes.

@chopsuey119: Since that's the first time I've ever heard of that store, probably not, but I'm googling it just to be sure!

And if all else fails, I'm sure they'll deliver.

@NaturallyCathy: do you have a fabrik store near you? I walked into one for the first time last week and they had a ton of flowy tops. Got the shirt I'm wear in my profile pic from there! :)

@swurlygurl: Well, besides the girls needing more room, most of my clothes from pre-pregnancy are about three years old at least considering they were bought before DS was born (he's 14 months old) and were well loved favorites before then. Styles have changed and so has my taste so this really is a great time for me to buy new clothes. Especially since we are definitely taking a break for a while after DD!

@chopsuey119: I love me some hoodies. Seriously, half of my outerwear? Hoodies. I have thick ones, thin ones, bedazzled ones, plain ones... they're like my sock collection. I see a cool hoodie or sock and I have to have it. Thankfully, DH is usually around to remind me that I have, like, twenty.

And as for the flowy tops, I love them but they're so hard to find!

I can nurse easily in all my clothes... nothing has a neckline that's too tight to not be able to just pull the girls out

I wish I had an excuse to buy new shirts!! :(

I know this sounds like a silly question but besides nursing bras/nursing camis, what are your criteria for a comfortable shirt/dress so that you can nurse in public if necessary?

I keep looking at my wardrobe pre-baby and I keep thinking 'nope, wouldn't be able to nurse in that'. Beginning to think this is a great excuse to get a few new clothes :)
