I wish I didn't have to be induced. Son was 42 weeks and 2 days at induction. Induction sucks, had to get an epidural that I didn't want. But other than that I didn't have too many complaints.

Next time, if there is a next time, I'm having a home birth with a midwife.

I wish it could've worked out where it was just me and my husband in the delivery room. He was an absolute nervous wreck and almost decided he couldn't handle even being in the room period. I made him promise to stay months before though, and I knew he'd regret it if he didn't, so I was able to talk him in to staying. He sat at the head of the bed, with his chair facing the wall and his head down the entire time. :( He lets his nerves get the best of him, so I needed the support of my mom, and he needed his mom.

That I didn't have back labor. Man, it was awful!

Not that that is something I could have ever had control over though.

I wish things were more timely. I waited over a hour for my epidural and it took the resident Anesthesiologist over a hour to get it in correctly. Once my OB told me I needed an emergency C section, I had to wait almost an hour and a half to get operated on because things came up in the ER that were more pressing! (I didn't mind that too much because they said it would be ok for us but it still made me a nervous wreck!) I wish the anesthesia for my C section worked...I was numb waist down from the epidural but nothing the dr administered took away the pain from the surgery! I cried, screamed and squirmed(3 people held me down) throughout the whole C- section...nightmare! I wish I had better pain management for my post childbirth stay...I don't think the nurses and drs understood the pain I was in!

I wish I hadnt had any complications and could have had the chance to go into labor naturally. Dont get me wrong I am happy to have a healthy baby and glad that I am doing well now but the surprise induction and then subsequent c-section really through me off. Basically NOTHING went as I had hoped

@Mrs. Bee: yep. Apparently they used synthetic morphine? Im fine with the regular stuff, but the synthetic is now a no go for me. I was puking off the side of the table during my section. The anesthesiologist couldnt get it to stop. Luckily I stopped long enough to enjoy the first like 10 minutes that she was brought to me, but then it went all downhill. The nurses at Lenox Hill were ANGELS though. One that wasnt even assigned to my room sat there and kept putting cold wet rags on my face and forehead all night long because it was the only thing that worked. I bought them all lunch the next day lol

@Rubies: it was 29 hrs for me, too!

I wish I did not have to push for 3.5 hours.

And then I also wish that I did not get an infection in my uterus pp.

@Lozza: omg that sounds so much like my experience. I went into labor at 5:30am after no sleep (so my last sleep was waking up around 11am the previous morning) and I didn't deliver Wagon Jr. until 5:30am the next morning. I did get some good sleep in my recovery room but I was a total mess going home and my recovery was awful.

I wish Id been more aware during the first 3 hours after Liv was born. I had a horrific reaction to the morphine from my section and was shaking and vomiting and my body temp dropped down to 95. So I was barely conscious and covered in a bear hugger for hours to get my temp back up. They kept asking if I wanted her, but if I even moved a finger I would vomit violently for 10 minutes, so DH had her for her first few hours. I didnt get immediate skin to skin, and I didnt nurse her until she was 5 days old. I wish Id started that immediately as well. Aside from those things (one out of my control,) it was smooth sailing.

I wish I'd gone into labor in the morning instead of at night. My water broke just as I was getting into bed at 10:30, and I was in labor for like 20 hours; by the time I had the baby, I was so exhausted and out of it that I couldn't enjoy anything. I didn't enjoy that initial bonding time, I felt overwhelmed and exhausted the whole hospital stay, and I was a mess by the time we took LO home.

I wish our post partum nurses and lactation were available and present. In the middle of the night, a tech came in and said "You can't wipe the baby like that" and I was so pissed and out of it (because it was like the 15th meconium poop) that I said, "It's ok, I do know what I'm doing. I'm a pediatrician." Never do that! We never saw another nurse or our LC for the rest of our stay. I didn't tell them to stay out, but that's how our English as a second language tech interpreted my bone headed comment!

Nothing really...I just wish my recovery wasn't so bad. If I think back, there really isn't anything I could have changed - everything went smoothly. If I had magic powers, I think I would want LO to be born sooner...My first contraction started 29 hours prior to giving birth and my contractions were regular!

With Charlie, I wish that I had gotten my epidural sooner. Waiting 4 hours for my epidural (was 8 cm dilated when I got it) was the worst pain I've ever been in in my entire life. I also wish my labor nurse wasn't such a bitch, but luckily I had a doula... otherwise my labor experience would have been so much worse! Of course I wish I could have delivered naturally instead of getting a c-section, but in the big scheme of things, I am ok with having had a c-section.

With Olive, I don't really have any complaints. I got my epidural as soon as I got to the hospital, the staff was great, my doctor was AWESOME, and I didn't have to push that long. Overall no complaints!

What do you wish were different about your childbirth experience?
