I think Pre-Seed really helped us through TTC. Somedays you're just not all about baby making, so this helped tremendously!

Making friends with Charters of the Hive and reading the thread really helped me figure out charting/temps/CM etc. This entire site is actually helpeful in general! (More so than the Babycenter forums were for me!)

I would also add: try to relax, enjoy it, and know that for so many of us, it takes time! I know that's really cliche, but if you look at back posts, you'll see that SO many of us got pregnant in the cycle we had a vacation, stopped trying/charting/tracking/whatever, or otherwise just enjoyed the...process. Find ways to make it fun...it's lots of sex, after all, and even though if TTC drags on it can feel like a chore, find ways to make it fun for both of you.

Thanks for the tips, off to sign up for fertility friend and buy that book! :)

@birdofafeather: I'd love to hear more about your cycles and how that affected how you approached things. I've been tracking my periods for the past year, and my cycles are about 38-40 days. I used to think I was irregular cause I wouldn't have a period every month, but it was really just because my cycles are more like every 5-6 weeks, so some months it works out to no period. My doc said that as long as they are consistent and I don't miss more than a month occasionally, there is no need to worry... Hope that holds true!

Definitely make an account at fertilityfriend.com, and as just a super simple charting 101:

-get a basal thermometer (BBT) because it measures in .1 increments instead of .2
-take your temperature at the same time every day (even weekends). If you wake up earlier one day a week, set your alarm for that time every day - you can go back to sleep once you temp
-You're looking for your temp to go up about .4-.5 degrees and stay there to indicate that you ovulated. When it dips back down to near where it started, that means your period is coming.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility is just the best book, I think! It was life-changing for me and is absolutely one of the biggest reasons that I got pregnant. I would definitely start charting and get to understand the basics outlined in the book. It can identify so many issues and also just help you understand when to try. I have several friends who would try around the 14th day of their cycle based on the assumption that all women ovulate then, only to find out once they started charting that they ovulated later than that.

@runnerd: I bought "Take Charge of Your Fertility" to explain charting. FertilityFriend.com is also a great site.

I started charting about 5 months in and I'm glad I did - I wasn't ovulating till about 9 months off of the pill. I would have been super-stressed if I hadn't known that.

If it takes you longer to conceive...find an online or IRL support group. And buy Wondfo OPKs and HPTs on Amazon.com instead of spending a fortune on the ones in the brick & mortar drugstores.

We tried for almost 2 years. My OB/GYN and insurance won't test for ANYTHING related to infertility until you hit the 1 year mark, and they were still dragging their feet about referring me to a reproductive endocrinologist when I found the infertility study that finally got me pregnant. I wish i had pushed for a referral earlier.

@runnerd: Welcome! I would create an account on fertilityfriend.com and do their tutorials on charting. It's a bit complicated at first so that's the best way to get up to speed.

I'm so new to the ttc world! The boards here have been my biggest knowledge source, so thanks everyone! Would anyone mind throwing out some back to the basics tips for newbies like me? What do you wish you had know about charting and TTC in the first few months?

Also, this first month I based things off tracking my periods and physical indicators, but I would like to start temping next month - can someone summarize what I'm looking for with the temps?

(And yea, I probably need to buy a book soon to sort of this out on my own haha)
