Sounds like you're done to me. We went to an open house our pediatrician held and then, after M was born, we called and made our first appointment.

i asked around for referrals and just called and made sure the dr took new patients and insurance. i didn't make it to the interview process because LO came early but the day LO was born the nurse asked who we'll be using for peds and the dr showed up the same day.

@purrpletulips: you're right; ill try to get him to see the baby first before any other ped does. He does work at the hospital i'm delivering at so hopefully he can make that happen.

Our hospital has the pediatrician/baby's doctor name/contact as part of the admissions paperwork so definitely have this on hand when you go in.

When you call you might want to ask if he has hospital privileges where you will be delivering; if so he will probably be able to do the first exams on the baby, if not then the hospital pedi can do it and fax the results to your pedi. Our pedi office wouldn't schedule the first appt until after the baby was born so I think I may have called to schedule her first appt while I was still in the hospital (if not then I called the first business day after we got home). It is a group office so I just saw whoever was available until I found someone we liked.

DH and I asked several people for referrals (friends with kids, DH's brother, DH's primary doc) and since I wanted a pediatrician and not just a family doctor we called the office that had the most recommend

I would call and confirm that he'll be able to be your pediatrician (i..e. taking new patients) and that he's in-network (if that's important), but past that, I think the hospital just needs to know who it is when you in and deliver.

I interviewed a pedi a few weeks ago, and at the end asked her if she'd be McBebe's pedi, and she said that, and that was it. She told me when I go in to deliver to have her name and office number ready because our hospital will ask for it.

We used a family Dr too. All we had to do was write his name down in the hospital paperwork. The staff ped examined DD after birth and our family Dr examined her a week later. We didn't make the appt for her until a couple days after she was born.

I am 28w+ pregnant and I know which pediatrician I will be using. I don't need an interview or mock appointment with him because I know him very well. He is my 15 year old brother's pediatrician and a good friend of my mom's (not so much him but his wife). I love him to pieces and trust him with anything! I have been to his office the few times in the past couple of year that my mom has asked me to take my brother to his appointments.

So, do I need to do anything else? Is it too early to make any appointments? Am I done finding baby's doctor?
