My friend makes her kid stay on her bed, turns on some soft music, and gives her a choice of books or dolls (quiet toys) and shuts the door. She keeps an eye on the kid on the monitor and if she sees her get off the bed, she reminds her to go back on the monitor mic. Her hope is that her daughter actually tests and I guess half the time she does fall asleep for a little while. But I imagine this works better for rule abiding kids.

I just have her go to her room. She sits on her bed and plays with her stuffed animals usually. Every once in awhile she is too loud but mostly it's good! It lasts anywhere from 45min to 1.5hrs.

She is in her room by herself for that time and can choose some toys from the playroom to bring in. Lately it is her pop up castle tent and magiclip princesses, but she will also play with books, her art stuff or duplos. She is in there 1-1 1/2 hours depending on what else is going on. The baby's room is upstairs so I don't worry about noise but she is usually quiet. She turned 4 last month.

My friend sends her daughter to her room and she can play with an iPad during that time. She is 5 though, so knows not to be too loud.

He can do art or watch a show - both things which he can't do while lo2 is awake.

If he's going to be loud though 1 of us usually takes him outside to play.

If your 3-4 year old doesn't take a nap anymore, what does their rest time look like? My 3.5 year old is in school 3 days during the week in the afternoon so she doesn't rest. On the days she is home, and my 1 year old naps I would like to have her rest. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. We never make her go in her room mostly because I'm paranoid she will play and be loud and wake up LO2 (rooms are right next to each other)....so we have her on the couch with a show or apps. I don't mind screentime because she's quiet but I don't want it lasting an hour or more.

What does your older LO's rest time look like? How long is it and what are they doing/not allowed to do?
