@skibobrown: bah! Reading about other babies' schedules and dealing with our total lack of schedule makes me want to poke my eyes out. But, like you, decent night sleep is LO's saving grace!

@Sammyfab: "crap nap"! I love it! That's what my baby does... ALL the time! I really hope we can establish a schedule by 6 months, but with my baby I am very much not optimistic.

@ElisaT: I just went off her cues too...I worried a lot bc other babies were staying awake much longer than her...but her doc says let her sleep as much as she wants. Mrs. Hotdog also has a sleepy baby and reading some of her comments about how much her baby sleeps made me feel so much better

We have absolutely no nap schedule at 4 months as we can never predict how long a nap will be. Ugh. From everything I have read, a more consistent nap schedule may not develop until 6-ish months (or maybe that's just what I tell myself because my baby crap naps me all the time!).

I'm so jealous of your schedule! My daughter is 2.5 months old, and there is no schedule in sight. She won't nap for longer than 30 minutes at a time, so I spend most of the day trying to convince her to go down for yet another catnap! She's great at night though, so that's her saving grace.

@sandy - That looks very similar to our schedule in terms of naps! It helps to know other babies are similar - it's so hard to figure out what is "right" with babies. =P

@honeybee - Yea I go mostly by LO's cues (stillness, quiet, or if I wait to long then yawns) but don't usually go past an hour even if I don't see the cues. She doesn't have a very high tolerance at all!

@ElisaT: It depends on what we're doing. If we're spending time outside, he is so distracted, he'll make it almost 3 whole hours without fussing and go down super easy. If we're inside and there's not as much stimulation, he gets cranky a lot sooner.

I would say to go off your DD's cues. If she's cranky at 1 hour, go ahead and put her down. My DD was like that as an infant; I put her down after an hour or 1.5 hours awake until she was 5 or 6 months old. She just couldn't tolerate being awake for longer than that. DS, on the other hand, has a much higher limit.

At 4-5 months LO was still taking 3 long naps and a catnap...shortly thereafter she transitioned to 2 long naps and a catnap.

7:00 - wake up and nurse and start the day
8:00-10:00 - nap #1
10:00-11:00 - awake, nurse and play
11:00-1:00 - nap #2
1:00-2:00 - awake, nurse and play
2:00-4:00 - nap #3
4:00-5:00 - awake,nurse and play
5:00-5:30 - catnap
5:30-6:30 - short playtime and then bedtime routine (bath lotion, pjs, song, final nursing session)
6:30 - in bed for the night

LO is now 7.5 months and can stay awake longer and is down to 2 naps and a catnap (gets up aroun 7:00-7:30 and bedtime is around 6:15)

@honeybee - At the end of two hours is your LO fussy from being tired or just getting tired? From 2 months I try to put LO down around 1 hour since that seems to be her limit. If I wait past that it's hard for her to settle. I'm wondering if she should be able to stay up for longer now. I've pushed into 1.5 hours before but that last half hour is lots of fussing and me carrying her to keep her entertained.

@ElisaT: He's up for 2-3 hours and normally sleeps 1-4 hours ata time. Usually, he takes 2 shorter naps and then a longer nap in the afternoon, but if he wakes up late in the morning, he'll take one short nap, one long nap, and then another short nap. Occasionally, he'll also take a short cat nap before bed, if he woke up too early from his afternoon nap.

Our son is 3.5 months and has only recently settled in to anything like a schedule.

8PM start bedtime routine (bath, massage, sleepsack, sometimes a book if he's calm enough, nurse, bed)
9PM he's out
In the last week or so he's started sleeping through. He wakes up anytime from 4AM to 6:30AM. Sometimes if he's up very early, he'll go back to sleep for a bit.
Then a brief nap (1 hours usually) sometime mid-morning (8ish?).
Another nap around 11. Sometimes lasts as long as 2pm.
After that, he'll take a few brief cat naps in the afternoon, but nothing regimented. Usually at least 30 mins (sometimes an hour) around 6pm.
I'm sure it will change now that I've got it somewhat figured out :)

DS is 3 months and not really on much of schedule. He generally sleeps about 5 hours in naps and 10 night, so his nighttime sleep is pretty well regulated, though:

6:30 pm - Start bedtime routine
7:30/8:00 - asleep
9:00 - dream feed
2:00-ish am - wakes for a bottle
5:00/7:00 am - wakes up for the day

One thing to note is that many babies go through a sleep regression around 4 months, so if she's suddenly waking for a bottle when she was sleeping through the night before, that might be the issue.

LO is 4.5 months old and I'm wondering what sleep schedules you had your baby on at this age.

Her current schedule is:
630am nurse then up for the day
730am-10am nap #1
11am-115pm nap #2
215pm-4pm (lately its been until 315 only though) nap #3
430pm-530pm nap #4 (only if she woke up early from nap #3)
630pm begin bedtime routine with bath, massage, and nursing
730pm bedtime
430am nurse then back down

If she misses the fourth nap or wakes up late from nap #3, then I usually do bedtime by 630-7 to avoid a complete meltdown. I'm just wondering how this compares to everyone else.

Side note - LO did not get up in the middle of the night to nurse from 2 months until 3.5 months. I thought her getting up all of a sudden was her signal she wasn't eating enough during the day so my mom upped her 3 daytime bottles (pumped milk) from 4oz to 5oz but it didn't help. I don't mind getting up to nurse her but just wanted to know if this sounds normal.

Also, how long does your LO stay up for between naps?
