@Mrsbells: Our babies are alike! We tried to make her bedtime 8/8:30. If we put her down then (she goes down fighting) she wakes up 2 or 3 times a night. If we put her down between 10-11:30 she will sleep until 6 or 7. And sometimes I have to wake her to feed her at 6.

3 y.o. sleeps from 9:30pm - 7:30am to almost 8:30am sometimes. 3.5 month old sleeps from 12am - 12pm (w/two wakings from me to eat). I was told to not wake him but he goes back to sleep so I wake him to nurse him. The late bed time for my 3.5 month old is so that I can have mornings to hang out with my 3 y.o. It's late but works for us for now.

LO is 4.5 months and we have no set bedtime because his day sleep patterns aren't completely organized yet. Bedtime is 2-2.5 hrs after his last nap and wake up is 12-13 hours after bedtime. He gets up once to eat anywhere from 8.5-11 hours after bedtime. No paci insert since we ditched it and I hated doing it!

So something like:
6-7 bedtime (bath, massage, nurse)
3-5 nurse
6:30-8 wake up

We thought we had a great pattern emerging at 6 weeks where it seemed like his sleep was consistent and getting progressively better and it went out the window at 9 weeks. It started getting better (and more consistent) again at 4 months.

@winniebee: We always feed our baby one more time before putting her down between 7 and 8 PM, regardless of when her last feeding was. Sometimes that means that her bedtime feeding is just a small top-off if she ate recently.

@Mrsbells: I've had a similar issue. I was feeling quilty with LO going to bed so late (usually between 10-11pm for her first long stretch) so last night put her down early... it was disastrous. She was up so much during the night whereas before she was usually sleeping from 10 or 11 to 6 or 7am straight, or at the very least solid 4 hour blocks.

I've decided we're just not ready for an early, set bedtime yet. What we're doing is working for us so we'll be waiting a bit.

Our baby is 3 months. This is her normal sleep schedule:
7:30-8 PM - out for the night
10:30-11 PM - dream feed
2-3 AM - whiny, stick pacifier in mouth (she is right next to our bed in her Pack N Play, so I don't even need to get up)
4:30-5 AM - whiny and hungry - we feed her about 4.5 oz
6 AM - whiny - I pull her into bed with me, and she falls back asleep quickly
8-9 AM - awake for the day

My baby is 11 weeks old. If I put her to bed after 10pm she usually sleeps all the way the way til about 5am or 6am. But If I try to put her to bed an hour earlier, she wakes up after an hour and then wont sleep for over 2 hours. Its really weird. I'm really trying to bring her bed time earlier but I'll wait a while

@regberadaisy: Thanks! I am not going to really try to set a sleep schedule until 3 months or so. He definitely tends to go down for a longer stretch on his own around 9. So, if he is fed and I see sleepy cues right after a feed that is close to 9, I put him down as if he were going to sleep for the night.

@winniebee: There was a point where I tried desperately to set a bedtime/routine for her. But it just did NOT work. Only in the last two weeks or so she started emerging with her own bedtime. I noticed no matter how early I started her routine she only fell asleep around 10pm. So I gave up trying to put her down earlier. Then in the last week or two I noticed she started being sleepy around 9pm so I started to put her down around 8:00. In the last two or so days it's shifted a little earlier to 7:30pm.

And with sleeping till 3/4am it's nothing I changed. She just started sleeping till then by herself!

I'm curious how those with infants have a set bedtime....how do you keep a set bedtime? Don't you put them to bed right after they eat?

My LO is almost 8 wks. He has pretty much no set pattern yet, but he's small (shy of 9 lbs). He will usually sleep a 4 hour stretch, then a 3.5 hour stretch, then a 2 or 2.5 hour stretch. His first stretch begins anywhere from 8-10 depending on what his daily eating and sleeping pattern was like. He is nowhere near sleeping through the night, apparently!

Last night:

8:30 - 12 slept in swing (we went to bed at 10)
12:45 - 4:45 slept in bassinet
5:15-8 slept in bassinet (but whined hourly)

M is 10 weeks old and night time sleep is about the only thing she's regular on!

Last couple days she's been wanting to start her routine about 7:30/8:00 and she'll be asleep around 9:00. She''ll wake up anytime around 3/4:00am. Then sleep till 6:00/6:30am.

Last night she fell asleep around 9:30pm/10:00 and woke up at 4:30am!

LO is 10 weeks (will be 11 weeks thursday)-I start her bedtime routine at 8, and she is fed and in bed by 8:45-9. She is sleeping from 9-7:30 every night and has been doing so since about 5 weeks.

Holy cow, my LO is no where near that. She is 8 weeks old and has pretty much no sleep pattern. We have started having her sleep in bed with us because we were so exhausted from battling her to sleep in her crib. Before our bed she was getting up every two hours and having a hard time going back down. Now that she is in our bed she gets up about every four and goes down a lot easier. The other night she did a 7.5 hour stretch in our bed. That is the best she has ever done, and I am sure it is because she was cuddled up with mom.

LO is 9 weeks old today. For the past week or so she has been going down between 8-9 and sleeping until 5:45. She snacks then and falls back asleep for another two hours. We're loving the extra Zs at night, but it has messed up her napping pretty significantly.

... and how old are they?

I think my baby does pretty well.
She is 3 months old and 1 week (she will be 14 weeks tomorrow.)
and she has been sleeping about the same for the past week or so. She usually is asleep anywhere from 930pm to 10pm.. around 3am she starts wining in her sleep but since she is in her bassinet still next to the bed I reach out and stick her pacifier in her mouth and she will not wake up until 5-5:30am for a feeding and she falls back asleep. I get up at 6am to start getting ready for work and my husband and I have to wake her up at 645ish to get her ready to go in her car seat for the babysitters house. The baby sitter says she usually falls back asleep from 8:30am to 9:30am.

I am wondering if I can push the time I put her to bed a little earlier.. Ideally 8-8:30pm would be great but that might mean she will wake earlier to eat in the early a.m and I'm not sure if its worth it in that sense.
so generally -

930-10pm - out for the night
3am - whiny, stick pacifier in mouth
5-5:30am- whiny, feed her about 4oz
6:45am - we wake her.
