Ahh, the dream house. 2000 square feet. A two story bavarian-esque bungalow, whitewash plaster exterior walls with dark wood trim. Wrap around dark wood porch and balcony, clay tile roof.
Four bedrooms, three baths. Library, playroom/family room, living room, dining room, large kitchen, and an office.
Set on two or three acres with a matching horse barn and stone wall fences.

2000-2500 sq ft, built before 1990 (preferably before 1980 - I like a bit of history with my house), at least half an acre of land (preferably 5 acres), 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, office (or space for an office nook in master bedroom), two family rooms (one for "living" room, one game room), home school room with a craft area, basement (can serve as game room or school room), one story with attic space, attached garage, laundry room, kitchen open to living room and dining room, pantry, wine cellar (small, though), screened in porch with patio for grilling, walk in closets in master and one other bedroom, garden tub and double sinks in master bath, large kitchen with island and either gas or smooth-topped range, with solar panels. If we go with full dream instead of quasi-realistic dream, then master bedroom balcony, secret passages from the bedroom closets to the attic, and enough solar panels to power the house and two cars (like that'd happen).

My dream home elements are all on pinterest ;)

A large but cozy craftsman style home with exposed beams, large windows and hardwood throughout. 2 Story 3500 sq ft. 5 bedrooms and an office area (we have 4 kids!)
Some of the key elements would be
A Farm Sink in the kitchen
Pounded copper sinks in the bathrooms
Lots of built-in's and lots of storage
A grand fireplace with cobblestone

We would be on at least 10 acres with a pond, shop, barn for raising baby goats, a guest home would be nice too.

I think if we had 5 million we could make this happen ;)

@Mrs. Bee: Your dream house is pretty much mine! Maybe a little bigger and 4 bedrooms PLUS an office in a 1 story. I also want a stellar kitchen with a full sized double oven with an adjacent mud room.

I'm actually currently living in my dream home. a one-story 2900 sq ft home - 3 bedrooms, an office, open living room, huge kitchen and a detached guest quarters that we converted into a gym. Great school system and awesome neighbors too. The only thing we'd like now that LO is here is a bigger back yard.

I don't really know specifics, but I'd LOVE a wrap around porch. Also a big, fenced in yard is a must for us because of the dogs. I'd love a few big trees in the back yard too so our kids could have climb trees or make a tree house.

This is a toughie because I have different dream home scenarios for different stages of our lives. We live in a "just right" house now that we had totally renovated to accommodate LM (lots of kid friendly considerations like no glass stand alone shower, but opting for a big bathtub in our bathroom). If we have 2 kiddos, I'd like to move to a larger house but not too much bigger! Ideally, we'd have 4 bedrooms (one master for us, 1 for each child, and a guest room), a comfy family room/play space, an office for Papa Marbles, and a studio/craft room for me, and a good sized yard. But I'd trade all of that for a brownstone/townhouse in Brooklyn Heights or Carroll Gardens in a heartbeat. ;) When we retire, I want a comfortable city apartment where everything is accessible by walking and public transportation.

Our dream home is a craftsman style bungalow with lots of brick and stone work and tons of built in bookcases for all our books and records. It would have an open floor plan with a huge, amazing Chef’s kitchen, 3 bedrooms upstairs plus dedicated office/craft rooms on the main floor, and a 2 car attached garage. It would also have a little back yard where plants and flowers would magically grow and look lovely (I don’t have green thumbs, but this is a dream, right?!). It would be super energy efficient so our heating bills wouldn’t be sky high.

We’re building a home, so that we can come close to our dream.

My dream home would be how our current home is laid out with a few changes. Our home is 2500sf. Downstairs, we have an open kitchen to eating area to family room. We also have an open dining room and a full bath and bedroom along the front hall. Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms and a loft.

To make it perfect: I would put the garage to the side of the house instead of under our master closet. That area downstairs where the garage is now would be an office and we could put the dog crates in there, instead of having them in our family room. I would add a basement and a larger attic area with walk-up stairs. That would make our house perfect. :)

My current home isn't a "dream" but it has potential. It's about 2400 sq. ft. and is a beautiful home, just in need of some serious updating. I think in about 10 years, I hope to have it just the way I like it.

Clean, crisp, bright, and stylish - but not too modern.

My dream home is a country home that is around 3000 sq ft. Ranch style home with basement that has 4 BRs (Large master with sitting room & large master bath, 2 kids rooms, and an office.) And 3 1/2 bath. It would have a huge yard for the kids and dog to play, with a hot tub for the colder nights for me and DH.

I want the basement to be converted to a hangout area with a large living room, wet bar, and toy room/game room for the kids. With a guest room eventually for when company stays over.

My dream home would be pink or yellow and bungalow style. It would have 4 bedrooms and a playroom that I'd later turn into a living room when the kids are grown. It would have a garage big enough to fit 2 cars and all of our crap. We'd have a huge fenced in backyard with tons of room for the dog and kids to play, and lots of flowers out front. And it would come with a cleaning lady and cook :)

My dream home would include an inlaw apartment, with a separate entrance if an elderly parent needs to move in.

I'd like 4 bedrooms (master with ensuite and dressing area), at least a powder room on the main level, 2 car garage and separate 1 car garage used as storage for bikes, etc without using a separate shed and then in the backyard a separate studio for me.

Our house has the potential to be our dream home - after a lot of renovations! I really love where we live and it has the bones, but it's going to take years until we get it the way we want.

What we do have is a private guestroom with it's own bath and entrance, enough room for 2 children sleep and play in. A private master bedroom with an attached bath. A lived-in family room upstairs with exposed beams (that's separate from the guest area downstairs). A garden. And most importantly, it's near lakes but not directly next to it, close to grocery stores and walking trails, and a quiet, established neighborhood.

----------- You can SKIP over this bit because it just explains renovations -----------
First, I'd want to take down a wall and fully extend the kitchen (it's tiny). Get new appliances (they're on their last limb) and figure out what to do with the flooring because one area is tile, while the other has wooden floors, plus the area we're extending into is slightly raised, so it won't align neatly. And add an island. I love kitchen islands!

Next, I'd want to hire a professional insulation consultant. He'll most likely recommend changing all our windows into triple glazed (we only have double and it gets cold here), and add insulation to all the necessary bits. I'd also want to add a pellet burning stove in the new renovated kitchen for energy efficiency and the much needed warmth.

Then the purely aesthetic changes like changing all the funky 70's elements (like our wooden slanted staircase railings), the weird textured wall plaster all throughout the house, and the ghetto rigged ceiling lights in the family room that looks like the end of a spaceship. We should also change the turquoise toilet and sinks in the master bathroom, but I'm getting used to it. Haha.

Then we should one day change the orange wallpaper in the "study", preferably before we have a 2nd child.

Lastly the fun projects: I want to make a pantry underneath the stairs and use the french double doors from the area we're extending the kitchen into. I also want to add light to the front of the house by either making windows over the door or at the very least replace the current guest bathroom door (beside it) with a glass door to let light into the nook and hallway. It's sad, but I can actually go on ... so yeh, it'll take awhile.

I don't want a house that's too large. In high school our house was too big -- 4500 sq feet -- and it just allowed me and my brother to have too much space and make mischief. I want to be all up in Charlie and Olive's business! (just kidding... or not)

Anyway my dream home..... would be around 2500 sq feet. 4 bedrooms -- master, 2 kid rooms, office. 3 bathrooms. A family room. A large backyard. And maybe a guest room over the detached garage that'd double as a second office. How wonderful!
