@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: haha, tell me about it. I was all about one piece dressing, it was so convenient for me! But then someone gifted us a set of the favorite pants, onesie and cardigan and I bought one in each size he was in until he didn't fit in them any more, lol.

They're cute, pretty much what my son wore his first year in the warmer months.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: My son wore a ton of babygap's favorite reversible pants, onesies and cardigans. In the summer, I really liked shories, they're like onesies, but they have a bit more leg covering, they're like onesies but with shorts bottoms.

C is 5 months and started care at 3 months. I sent her in cute stuff because I can! She'll be mobile and messy (and independent if she's like her brother!) soon enough, this is my only shot! :silly:

I was doing a cardigan in the mornings for a while, but it's warm now and she doesn't need it. I do layer a bit with a bib because she's very drooly and it saves her from needing an extra change. Her back-ups are onesies and pants because I feel like those are the easiest & can be changed independently of each other.

My LO is 4 mo. He wears a short sleeve onsie with cotton pants and socks. I'll add a fleece if it is below 50 degrees, but daycare is pretty warm. No shoes.

He has 4 back ups that are the same thing. We save the cute outfits for the weekend

She started in January so she spent the first 3 months there in footed sleepers. The teachers would joke that she always wore her PJs (some of the other infants always had tiny little outfits every day) but honestly, it was way too annoying to try to layer. When the weather warmed up, we switched to little rompers.

As long as the clothes are warm and comfy, don't worry about it. We sent shoes once LO was transitions to the one year old classroom and was ready to go outside. We sent socks before that but they fell off a lot. Most daycare a keep the infant room pretty warm.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Really good thread idea. Commenting to follow. DS starts day care in 7 weeks. He will be 8.5 months old and probably (?) crawling. I have wondered the same thing - do I need to send socks or shoes on him in the summer? Is there any point in layers or can he wear what he wears at home - shortsleeved snap onesies??

Emma started daycare in February and we often sent her in what she wore to the bed the night before if it was still clean! Normally a one piece snap up long sleeved/pant outfit with feet. Or shirt + onesie + socks. Just comfy stuff. No need to be fancy for daycare.

I send a lot of hand me downs to school for his bin - and a ton of them. LO2 had lots of blowouts, spitups, and drool, so a ton of bibs and a ton of daycare outfits were a must. I did mix and match pants, shorts, long and short sleeve onesies and socks so that they could change him into whatever he needed. We also keep a sweatshirt there full time for him to wear outside for buggy rides and if it gets chilly. The infant room is generally warm though.

LO started in summer at 15 weeks old and it was really hot. We did a lot of rompers and onesies with shorts. And always socks, at least in the mornings. Once he found his feet it was hard keeping socks on him!

I had some concern about this when I sent LO to daycare at 7 months but my perspective now is that you REALLY can send him in literally whatever you want. They are not going to be teasing him for his lack of style. I think we kept DD in footed onesies for a couple months simply because we had a ton of them. Now, I tend to grab outfits that I don't like as much so I can save the ones I prefer for the weekend when I'll be with her all day. Oh yeah and of course the clothes I really don't like will go into her drawer for extra outfits. We didn't start any kind of shoes or shoe-like object until she was pulling up to stand and it was also warm enough to go outside.

[ETA] In our daycare, the infant room is REALLY warm so we never had to do layers or a jacket. Now we keep a poofy coat in her drawer and let the teachers decide when to put it on her if they're going to go outside. No need to overthink it on our part.

My son literally lived in cotton zip up footed sleepers for the first 6-ish months of his life. He didn't go to daycare at the time but if he did I doubt I would have done anything different. Once he was scooting and trying to crawl, onesies with thin cotton pants or leggings to keep his knees protected.

Even now at 21 months we just wear comfy cotton clothing to daycare. Lots of Carters sets, Target has lots of soft cotton basics like shorts and tshirts and pants that we like, and leggings from CottonOn. We save the cute stuff for church.

In colder months we keep a light fleece jacket or fleece vest in his diaper bag.

Like others have said LO had a dedicated cubby space for spare/extra clothes and I sent clothes I didn’t like to daycare as extras.

I also left a light sweater there in case they went outside and needed it. Our daycare keeps the rooms quite warm and one entire wall is windows in each room so the rooms also stay warm from the sun – so there is no need to dress in layers, sweaters, etc. when they will be inside all day. You might want to check with your daycare to see how warm the rooms usually are.

LO started daycare at 13 weeks and when she was little we just sent her most everyday in a short-sleeve onesie and cotton pants. Usually just socks; shoes were too much work for zero purpose or functional need.

Being a WOHM is busy enough, ain't nobody got time for multiple pieces and matching! I sent 2 swaddles in for sleep and they were kept there. Back up clothes were rompers and sleepers.

My son was never a fashion plate, but when he was small, I really liked one piece things for him. I had him in sleep and plays from Carters until he outgrew them, basically.

Onesie underneath, instead of a blanket or a layer on top. Socks, but no shoes (I was lazy and cheap).

Both kids wore sleepers or rompers (like what @ShootingStar: linked) until they were walking. No socks or shoes until walking. And we didn't layer - just a jacket over their clothes in the winter (and a blanket in the car) and then it all comes off at daycare. I have boys though and they both ran warm, so I didn't need to layer or anything.

H started in the winter, so we sent her in long sleeved shirts/onesies, pants (jeggings/leggings), or sleepers. Once it warmed up, I ditched the onesies and sent her in cute separates or in dresses/rompers. Nothing fancy or frivolous. It had to be comfy. I put socks on her when it was cold, but she did not wear shoes until she was closer to 1.

@ShootingStar: that romper looks so comfy. I went to Gymboree and Gap yesterday and they had a bunch of rompers in scratchy material. My FSIL found some cute stuff at Old Navy; I have to find one here with a bigger baby section.
