@purrpletulips: just curious, what does your LO call you and your DH? my MIL says she wants to be called "mama" but for reason it kind of irked me cause then wouldn't the LO get confused between calling me mama and her mama? english isn't my mil's first language so DH thinks she meant "nana" but we're not sure!

@Mrs. Blue: @mediagirl: Thanks! No story behind the names really. When my nephew was born, my mom wanted a cute, unique grandparent name that would be easy for little ones to pronounce!

LO doesn't talk yet and he's the first grandchild on both sides. My mom wants to be called "YaYa" and my dad wants to be called "PawPaw." I don't like YaYa and I call my grandpa (dad's dad) "PawPaw." I have no idea what DS's parents want to be called. We don't live close to any of our family so I think we could really teach DS to call them whatever. :)

My parents are Korean so LO will either just say "grandma and grandpa" (in English) or "halmuni and harabuhgee" but it's tough to say for such a little one.

My in-laws are Chinese and they want LO to call them "mama and yeh-yeh". I don't like the term "mama" because that's usually what little ones call their mothers! Oh well.

My mom and step-dad are Fritz and Gigi, and I assume our LOs will call them that. Hubs's parents are Nunu and Pop, and again, I assume our LOs will call them that. I have no idea what my dad will want to be called - this will be his first grandchild!

Both grandmas are "halmuni" (Korean for grandma) and grandpa is "harabuhgee" (Korean for grandpa). Great-grandma is "noh halmuni" (old grandma).

After MIL took care of Wagon Jr. for a weekend, we picked him up and his teachers asked me "ok mom, who's Harmony? he keeps asking for Harmony." So funny because the pronunciation for grandma in Korean sounds just like Harmony! I explained it was his grandma... and they asked, "oh, is that her name?" I just kinda said yes. Haha.

@purrpletulips: I think papa is so cute. I wanted my dad to go by that but my nieces coined him grandpa. Maybe I'll be like you and just change it for my Littles.

My LO isn't the first grandchild for my parents but has decided to not follow my niece and nephew in calling them "ma" and "pa". My LO calls my parents "mama" or "papa" although most of the time she thinks the names are interchangeable and calls my mom "papa" or when you tell her to point to "mama" she points to my dad.

We try to get her to call DH's dad "grandpap" but she doesn't see him often so who knows what she'll end up calling him.

We don't see or talk to DH's mom much but she signs any card "nana" and wants to be called that; so far LO doesn't call her anything.

My MIL and FIL will be first time grandparents when we have a baby. Everytime we see then they try to decide why they want to be called as grandparents. My nieces call my dad Grandpa and my mom Grandma or Nī Nī.

What do your parents and ILs go by?
