Some helpful tips and good reminders so far :) I should add that one of our biggest issues is that he is ALWAYS hungry at night and it's the only way he'll fall asleep so DH cant even help me much :( It's just a lot of me feeding and feeding and putting him down and he wakes up literally 5 mins later every time and I have to start it all over again. I remember my first going down pretty well with some shushing and bouncing, but this guy isn't having it!</p> <p>@SLR: my first was a spitter upper, too and I remember having to keep her upright - so time consuming - hang in there!</p> <p>@petitenoisette: lol - that wetness indicator is genius for the diaper companies. So now I only change him for that feeding, halfway through the night. When he woke up, husband would get him up and change diaper and re-swaddle. This process became much simpler when we started using a Woombie (or similar product, don't need name brand) they have a double headed zipper so you can keep arms swaddled and change diaper and then quickly just zip back up. Saved us so much sanity! Then husband gives to me and I nurse to sleep and then put baby back in bassinet. If he's pooping again, I agree with trying cream and just leaving him for a bit. It's not like he's not going to be back up relatively soon and you can change it then.</p> <p>Hang in there. Only poop. So if you aren't doing as many changes maybe that means less becoming fully "awake" at night for baby? At night, we only change diapers for poop, use a zip swaddle, and really loud white noise. I'm also bed sharing with her, which was totally NOT part of my plan, but she would not settle in her bassinet and I needed some sleep! The past few nights I've been getting her to sleep in the bassinet for an hour before she wakes up and comes into bed with me - it's a work in progress! He pooped every time he fed, and had a terrible diaper rash from going so often. We couldn't leave it on him. But it would always wake him up and wake ups took at least an hour in the middle of the night. Once we got the diaper rash under control and he stopped pooping every time he ate, things got a lot easier and he could just eat and go right back to sleep. I think it will get better as he gets a little older no matter what you do. </p> <p>But for now I second (third?) doing as little as possible when he wakes up. Don't unswaddle or change diaper unless he feels really wet or poopy. Put on a thick layer of diaper cream before bed. What type of swaddle are you using? Could you change the diaper without unswaddling? Some types unzip from the bottom for this purpose. And turn on as few lights, make as little noise as possible when you get up with him. My only idea would be to slather on some diaper cream and don't change him again even if he does poop. I know that sounds kind of wrong but you gotta get some sleep! However, we're stuck in a cycle where something wakes him up (diaper change, putting on the swaddler) and the only way he'll go back down is by nursing which usually necessitates another diaper change and it all starts over again.</p> <p>Needless to say we're exhausted and need some ideas (or sympathy lol). He won't let DH hold him MOTN unless he's totally passed out, so it's usually just me and DS on our own. I don't remember getting stuck like this in the early days with DD and I know newborn territory is basically "anything goes" but I'm having a hard time figuring out something that works and can give me a glimmer of hope. </p>
