We have a pack n play with the newborn bassinet sleeper in our bedroom. We plan on transitioning her to her crib asap (or when she is ready!)

@Mrs. Yoyo: Thank you for all the info, we purchased one for the first month (since that month we will also be moving into a new home, setting up the crib now wouldnt be smart.)
Im glad to see someone had a good experience with it.

@mediagirl: None whatsoever. Most of what I've read indicates that it can happen no matter what an LO's sleeping situation, conventional cribs included, if they're left in the same position too long, and that some LOs are prone to it because the don't switch head position on their own. I guess some people have added a bit of padding beneath this in hopes of alleviating any issue. And there's also the conventional wisdom of alternating head position and plenty of tummy time.

We tried a co-sleeper and rock n play for about 2 weeks but then I moved her into the nursery and crib. I didn't like how she wasn't lying flat in the rock n play. I was worried that something would get scrunched the wrong way.

@Mrs. Yoyo: did you have any problems with flat head with the rock n play? My SIL has had her lo in that thing for 4 months and he has a serious issue with flat head. They finally moved him to the crib, 3 weeks after the pediatrician said they MUST do that to fix it, and it's getting better. I had read about other parents having the same problem with that sleeper.

@aMohror: Yes, we used it for night sleep up until 11 weeks or so, and for some naps, too. I just put it by the bed. He seemed to like the coziness of it, and the angle was good for the bit of reflux he had. We didn't have a big issue transitioning to the crib afterward, either, though swaddling helped with that.

@aMohror: LO had a bit of a rough transition ONLY BECAUSE we sleep-trained her, which is why we moved her to her crib/room.

Thank you ladies for all the great feedback! Gives me some ideas I can use! Did you babies have a tough transition to the crib?

@Mrs. Yoyo: I have been looking at those! Have you used one?

Fisher Price rock n play! Highly recommend as an inexpensive alternative to a bassinet.

@aMohror: we bought a bassinet that our lo will sleep in while we're working out a schedule. Honestly, we got it used for $30 so, it wasn't really a hardship to buy something we'll use for 3 months and then sell again!

For the first 3 weeks, LO slept in a pack n play in our room. Since then, she's been in her crib in her room. We still use the pack n play for sleeping when we're away from home.

I co-slept with my LO for the first few weeks of her life. She started sleeping alone at 4 weeks or so. We started co-sleeping again at 11 months. :P She loves sleeping next to me.

@aMohror: 1 1/2 months. I would have left her in the bassinet longer but I was scared she was getting too long for it. The sides were mesh and she would press her face against the side when she was sleeping. But she got so big that she was no longer against the mesh and that freaked me out. But it was probably for the best... otherwise I would have kept her there forever :)

We have a bassinet, but I don't know if I'd recommend it. It was nice for LO, but she grew out of it so quickly. I'm not sure it was worth it, even if we do get to use it for another baby too.

I have seen many different things that newborns are sleeping in now, when they are in your room. Side co sleeper? Bassinet? Pack and Play? What should I get?! What do/did you like best?
