My mom and sister are insisting that we get a traditional wooden cradle. My sister has three kids and used a cradle with the youngest and said she wishes she'd had it for the other two. My mom is buying one for us, so I guess that's what we'll use. We are also planning to get a pnp with a bassinet, so we can use that if the cradle doesn't work out.

for the first 7 weeks he fell asleep in his car seat and we put that in his pack and play(in our room) with him in it and i then swaddled him after he had his middle of the night bottle and put him back in the pack and play. now he falls asleep in his bouncer( we wanted to get him away from needing the car seat to fall asleep) and we put that in there.

We used a pack and play in our room for the first 6 months. it's also been great as a travel crib and a place to confine our babe for short periods. We're about to retire it now that he's 18 months.

We have a tall cal-King bed, too, and we're using an Arm's Reach co-sleeper sleigh bed that our friends let us borrow. We had it next to the bed to "practice" for a few nights, but it was so hard to get out and in for my late-night pees. So now it's in the bar area until the baby comes... I'm not sure if I want to attach it to the bed or just lock the wheels.

We also have a king size bed that's really high off the ground. It's also tilted so help with DH's acid reflux, which makes co-sleepers harder to use.

At this point I plan on using a sleeper that we can put in the bed with us, to help with breastfeeding. We should be able to use that until the baby starts sleeping through the night, or until they outgrow it and need to go in the co-sleeper our aunt is giving us. We'll have to build a platform to make the co-sleeper work, though!

Our little girl will sleep (whenever she decides to make her appearance) in an heirloom bassinet that's been passed around her father's maternal side of the family. She won't fit in there long and the crib is too big to fit into the our room, so we'll have to figure out something when the time comes.

We tried a bassinet... she hated it. In fact, I have yet to encounter someone whose baby liked the bassinet! I would suggest something that snuggles the baby in as close as possible... I have heard babies like the Rock n Play.

Our LO sleeps in our bed.

We use the Pack N Play. I have it pulled right up against the bed, so it's almost like the arms reach co-sleeper in a way. It does take up a fair bit of space, but it will be DD's dedicated crib until at least 4 months when we move to a new house.

We use the mini arm's reach co-sleeper. I'm pretty much obsessed with it. I love having LO right next to me but in her own space. Our bed is also high off the ground, but we have the leg extension kit and it's perfect. It takes up very little room and sounds like it's exactly what you are looking for! We are actually borrowing for a friend, but I might suck it up and buy one for the next bambino/s, because I love it so so much.

Different color, but this is basically what we got. I love that it was only $50! When he gets old enough to sit up on his own I'm going to turn it into a ball pit!

My SIL has the real deal expensive pack and plays, but hardly uses them since they are so big and clunky to move around. This is super easy to fold and throw into the car when we travel.

Wow - so many great comments! Thanks all!!

@CarrieLouWho: That bassinet is cute! I also wish it was a little cheaper! I only hope to use it for such a short time and I can't see re-purposing that into something else -- but agreed, all the others I saw were plastic and cheapy!

@hilsy85: I almost got the UppaBaby just for that bassinet with that great stand! Oh well....

@lemondrop: I will have to check out that smaller Costco PNP, thanks! I love that they have other uses!

@regberadaisy: Was that in the bed with you or next to the bed?

pack n play is great if you're gonna use it as a travel crib as well. But it's HUGE. There's a mini version my friend got that I love, I think it's just a travel crib with a bassinet attachment you can put on top, but there's no way we could use it for Wagon Jr. now that he's bigger. You definitely do not need anything bigger than a bassinet-- they don't even roll in the beginning. We used to lay Wagon Jr. the wrong way in the bassinet attachment for our pack n play because he fit the short way instead of the long way. All you need is a safe surface a little bigger than the baby!

@hellobeeboston - We have the EXACT same problem! Our king bed sits up really high off the ground and there is not a lot of room around the perimeter for a PNP (which was my initial solution). I did the measurements this weekend and a PNP won't work.

I don't see any definite solutions here... I'm struggling with this too...

I had thought about the Pottery Barn Kids Bassinet - http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/bassinet-and-bordered-pique-bedding/?pkey=bbassinets
But I'm not sure if I'm willing to shell out $300 for something we won't be using very long at all.
The other bassinets I've seen are plastic and super cheap looking... I'm trying to watch Craigslist for a deal.

We used a bassinet by Kholcraft. Nothing fancy, but it worked for the first 5 weeks. We also can't buy things like the Rock n Play in Switzerland, but I probably wouldn't have gotten it anyway just because of the price (things add up!).

We have a pair of Brica Travel Bassinets that we plan on keeping on the floor (but we have a lower platform bed). I like that they fold up nicely so we can use them for travel once the babes have graduated to sleeping in their cribs. They were about $40 each, and have mesh breathable sides - it seemed to be a set up that most resembled what their crib will be like, and was the most cost effective since we needed 2 :)

We were given a bassinet which we plan on using. It's wood, and nice and sturdy. We also have the Rock and Play so if the bassinet doesn't work, we can try that. Our room is pretty small too so a pack n play just didn't make sense. We live in a small house so I am hoping to move her into her room within a couple of months. We'll see how it goes I suppose.

We use Arm's Reach's mini co-sleeper and just put it about 2 feet away from my side of the bed. They also have one that's the same size as most pack 'n plays. One side of it is mesh so I can see him from our bed. If your bed is higher and you want to pull it up to your bed this might be a good option b/c you can buy their leg extension kit to make it higher. Our bed is pretty high but I decided not to get the kit b/c I usually nurse my LO on the couch in our sitting room. I like it a lot b/c the mini co-sleeper is smaller than a pack 'n play and folds smaller for travelling. The only downside is that he won't be able to use it as long as a PNP. We used the PNP more when my oldest was older.
