You're essentially creating bookmarks for your apps, so you have to keep the original apps (I kept them in a folder on the last page). You can't create a bookmark for everything (phone, camera, settings, calculator, maps), so I had to download other versions of some things (calculator, maps). For email and text to get a new icon you had to create a shortcut to a new message, so every time you opened it you opened up to a new message/email that you had to close out of before looking at your inbox.
