DD slept in a pack n' play until she was about 18 months old; then, we switched her over to a toddler bed at home and a full-sized bed when we're traveling. Usually, DH sleeps with DD, DS goes in a pack n' play, and I get the other bed all to myself. :)

LO sleeps one of the beds. We usually get a room with 2 fulls and we put one of the mattresses on the floor for her.

We are leaving on a trip next week and our relatives have arranged a pack and play for us to use, we'll see how it goes and report back. I really wanted to stay in a hotel with a crib just because I think LO would sleep better there.

@Andrea: "We definitely cannot co-sleep and she always gets her own room."

This is what I am imagining:

Andrea, to DD, in the hotel hallway: "Ok, so here's your room key, we're right across the hall. No pay-per-view, stay out of the minibar, and call us when you wake up in the morning."
DD (eyeroll): "Whatever, mom."

Up until the past month, we always put DD in a pack-n-play/portable crib. We recently took the front off her crib to make a toddler bed (transitioning to twin bed sometime this month), since doing that I didn't want her to be back in a confined space so when visiting my parents we used an inflatable toddler bed. We are visiting my FIL at the end of the month and will probably just put DD in the guest room on the double bed (she doesn't move around much in her sleep so we're not worried about her falling out).

We have used a hotel crib and a pack and play when staying over at someone's house. DD is 2 and sleeps fine away from home this way. We definitely cannot co-sleep and she always gets her own room.

I have an 18 month old and he's used a pack and play in the past, when we've been at the beach, for example. He's also used hotel cribs and has a regular crib at my parent's and inlaw's homes.

I plan to use these solutions as long as possible, then we'll use a twin bed with a bed rail. He's a trasher and we all sleep like crap if we sleep in the same bed.

We used to bring a travel crib with us or get a crib/pack n play from the hotel. It used to take him forever to fall asleep if he was in our bed. But now with two kids, he just sleeps with us in our bed while the baby gets the travel crib. He's also gotten more used to sleeping in our bed so now it doesn't take quite as long. We also make sure to tire him out so he sleeps.

My daughter is 13 months and we just had a experience with this this past weekend. We usually bring the pack n play with us when we travel (about once a month) but our last trip she protested it to an extreme level and I ended up putting her in bed with me. When we were preparing for this last trip we realized our pack n play was at a family member's house and decided to just go without it. The first night at our hotel it took about 3 hours to get her to sleep (she was extremely over tired) but she slept very still next to me with pillows on the other side of her. The next evening she went to sleep in about 15 minutes which we were super excited about. I slept on one side of her and put two pillows on the other side of her. I woke up at 1230 am to a thud when she fell off the bed. She didn't sleep nearly as soundly as the first night but did sleep a lot longer. I guess I don't know what the answer is, except that I think for the near future she'll be in the pack in play until I can figure something else out because I'd rather deal with a protest than a broken bone.

After a few experiences we've finally come to the conclusion that Wagon Jr. Does best in sleeping in his own space but next to us so he can see us. We never ever cosleep so having him in the bed just keeps him up for hours. The last time we traveled he only slept when Wagon Sr. Slept on the floor next to the pack n play.

So if we are staying at someone's house, we'll bring our aerobed and have his pack and play right next to it so we are on the same level. If we are in a hotel we'll request a crib and put it right next to the bed.

Not sure about this yet... We'll be traveling with our LO for the first time at the end of June and I'm sooo nervous.

We bought him an organic mattress topper that can double as a nap mat, so we're hoping he takes to that and we can just bring it anywhere.

What do you use if you are traveling with a toddler as far as sleep? When did you stop using the pack n play? Do you use a cot? Regular bed? I am especially interested in people with kiddos 18 months & up
