We used blue buffalo for a short time, but it gave our dog serious tummy issues

We then switched to Natural Balance, it was the only thing that worked for him (he had a very sensitive digestive system for a long time). It was like $55/bag but the bag was huge and would last several months. We used Natural Balance for about 2 years.

We recently got a Costco in our town and they have a dog food just like Natural Balance, but it's only $33 (or something like that)/bag! Same size so it lasts months, but we save $20. Our dog has never had an issue on the Costco food, which is really surprising because every other food made him sick.

We used Natures Variety Instinct for a long time because our shiba was super picky for awhile. But recently we switched to the Costco brand Nature's Domain salmon and sweet potato and both dogs seem to like it (we also have a pomeranian). We are saving a lot more now that we've switched since it's about half the cost!

Natural Balance, I had a bunch of dog food samples from work and let him try them and this was his favorite. He used to be a pretty picky eater, but this food solved that issue.

Another one for Fromm here! We started out with Fromm Gold but the "regular" Fromm is $10 cheaper & I really don't think there is much difference.

When we got him, he was eating Nutro Max, and had the worst gas! Our vet said she has heard of more gas problems on Nutro products than any other food. His eye boogers also cleared up when we switched him.

We feed ours Taste of the Wild. He has a pretty sensitive stomach. After trying Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Innova, and one more I can't remember, we finally found something that works for the poor guy.

We fed Solid Gold for a long time, then realized my dog's skin problems were due to allergies. We did a food trial with Science Diet ZD (prescription), ruled out food allergies (his were environmental), and then settled on Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato.

How big is your dog? The amount of food will differ by brand, but my 55lb shepherd mix was able to maintain a healthy weight with 4 cups per day.

We feed our dog Purina Pro Plan (I believe it's the chicken flavor) and she loves it. We used to feed her a brand from Costco but she didn't seem very enthusiastic about it. Once we switched to Pro Plan she really seemed to enjoy eating more. She's very active and goes on long runs with me and it fuels her well. We buy at Petco and generally wait til there's a sale and we have a coupon so the price isn't too bad!

we use Precise for our shelties, as do our in-laws, and love it--our dogs are all really healthy on it and my in-laws' last two dogs have lived to about ~16 on it, so we're pretty sold on the brand! it can be hard to find in stores so we get it via wag.com

sorrycharlie, your sheltie really must be huge! we have two little peanuts--our baby is 15 lbs and growing and gets 1 cup/day, and our other dog was told he was getting too "padded" at 17.5 lbs so he now gets 3/4 cups of food

@sorrycharlie: when we switched to a.better food, we found we could feed less, since there were less fillers. That might help!

@regberadaisy: with an elimination diet - we tried to fed him home made foods but he still had issues so we started trying higher end kibbles starting with Chicken and rice to Lamb and brown rice to the Salmon and sweet potato we're on now. We gave the foods months to work through him but his one helped after a week!

Also, we can't give left over chicken or his ears flare up, it's crazy how little it takes now.

We also have an alergy issue with grains, chicken, ect that caused major ear and skin issues and he's finally doing good on this food after we tried a lot of high end brands and its half the price. Good luck!

We feed him the Costco brand. I'm not sure what food review site I read, but it was actually rated pretty high for dry dog foods and the ingredients look good. $40 for 45 lb bag. Or dog doesn't seem to be picky. We used to feed him Chicken Soup brand and didn't notice any difference switching.

@sorrycharlie: FWIW, I feed my cats Blue Wilderness food, and they thrive on it! I tried feeding my dog I think it was the Blue Buffalo Basics to him (which is supposed to be the easiest on their stomachs) well it gave him HORRIBLE diarrhea. Like so bad that he was 100% potty trained, but he ended up having like 4 accidents in the house. :-( It was way to rich for his little belly. So just watch out for that!!
