We're in the same boat - she's watched a little football and hockey (and some real estate and food shows thrown in), but nothing for her. She's turning two in December, but I'm nervous about starting to let her watch anything! I think we'll start with Daniel Tiger, since it sounds like it's pretty solid! I've got a couple of episodes downloaded to my iPad for our plane trip coming up...

Super Why was great for helping him learn the alphabet (and even though he's known all of the letters for a long time he still loves them), and Daniel Tiger is great for teaching social interactions, empathy, how to deal with frustration or anger, potty training, tooth-brushing...it's the one I go to on default. And E loves him--he asks for Daniel and named his stuffed tiger doll Tigey (despite D's best efforts to name him Hobbes :) )

D sometimes throws on Sesame Street, but E really only likes Elmo, so more often then not we watch Elmo's Potty Time or the tooth-brushing music video.

I have been really pleasantly surprised by the educational value of Daniel Tiger. Lots of life lessons, repetition and songs that have been really helpful to reinforce ideas "you gotta try new food because it might taste goood", "try to solve the problem yourself and you'll feel proud" etc.

We don't have cable either but the pbskids.org website lets you stream the last 4 weeks of episodes so you can do it on your own time. The shows are only 12 minutes too so it can be a good (small) incentive rather than a whole hour long sesame street for example.

Daniel Tiger annoys the hell out of me but for very little ones, I feel like the repetition, songs & relatable topics work amazingly. It is created from the work of Mr Rogers who I think should have been crowned King of the World so I am a fan!

Definitely Daniel Tiger. I don't love the animation and it's kind of meh as an adult, but the stuff it teaches little ones is amazing and fantastic. They have shows on every topic too - feelings and expressing them, sharing, trying new foods, potty training, not getting your way, going to the doctor, etc.

We like anything on PBS and find most of the shows very educational. We like: Daniel Tiger, Super Why, Wild Kratts, Sesame Street, etc. I am not a big fan of Dora and DS seems bored by it.

LO has never ever been interested in television, so she hasn't really watched much. The only thing she really likes is football! She watches that with DH on the weekends.

But now that she's approaching two, I'm interested in exposing her to some programming designed for her age group and see if she finds some interest in it. But I'm hoping it will have some good life lessons and whatnot in it. I don't want her to be dependent on it, though! I'm nervous to start offering it to her. Any advice on that front?

I hear a lot of Daniel Tiger and Dora the Explorer. Are those good? Bonus points if it is available on Netflix or You Tube since we don't have cable.
