So dinner plans with friends were difficult. I started by just putting off the drinks, "I'll have some in a little while." Then giving them to hubby. But it became a big problem when my severe MS set in. I couldn't eat a damn thing and the smells were setting me off. I ended up canceling plans a lot because I knew it was gonna be obvious (and miserable). Several friends ended up knowing before we officially announced because there was no other excuse for being sick all the time. My tennis club had a fall festival / chili cookoff and I got called out by one of my tennis teammates about why I was drinking a Coke Zero instead of beer. She straight up asked me if I was knocked up. I lied and just said I wasn't in a beer mood but I don't know if she believed me. @babycanuck: I can't specifically answer your question because DH is the one who flies for work every week, not me. Refilled it with water. Also, I would get soda water with lime at bars. I did use the "I've had a headache all day," line a few times, too. Nobody ever asked me directly, and if they had their suspicions they were quiet. We told our closest friends early, thoug, and they are probably the most likely to be suspicious. I can totally keep a secret, but the anxiety of it drives me crazy. I only got my bfp last week, but I've turned down alcohol at my MIL's dinner (but they knew we were ttc). I haven't been feeling well at work and have been asked outright if I'm pregnant and had to say no. I wanted to wait until 12 weeks to tell family, but I don't know if I can wait that long for even just co-workers. I never take sick leave, and she would've been suspicious bc I had to take sick leave for hsg one week, betas two weeks later, betas again 72 hrs later, and then first ultrasound 10 days later. That's 4 "doctors appointments" in almost a month. When I was pregnant with LO1 and went from paleo to carb-crazy everyone at work asked me about it. I told them I was shopping for a house and it was so stressful I was allowing myself carbs until we closed on the house. This time around I've been eating SO much and constantly. Co-workers are asking questions and I've been telling them I'm seeing how fat I can get. I've also told other friends who knew we were going through infertility treatments that we were taking a break & just waiting to ovulate, hoping that cutting out alcohol would help get me pregnant without medical intervention. Other excuses were saying that my acupuncturist & nutritionist had told me not to drink. Mostly in social gatherings when it came to me not drinking I just said I was driving or had a head ache all day and didn't want any. The most awkward time was before my DH's friends knew and one of his friends who can be really obnoxious when he is drinking would not let me use " I am driving" as an excuse at a wedding and kept trying to find someone else to drive us back to our hotel and handing me drinks all night.
