We haven't had issues, but my littles love fruit so I think it helps a lot. They eat berries and grapes daily.

My son's pedi gastro said probiotics won't do anything to help with constipation per se, but she doesn't see a downside if we wanted to give them.

So right now, we don't unless he's on antibiotics.

@Bao: my girls are eating activa for breakfast right now because it's what Costco had. I don't think it tastes any different than other yogurts. We have peach, strawberry and blueberry right now. It has extra probiotics.

Full disclosure my girls love dairy. So they will eat most any yogurt but are less fond of the Greek varieties.

Oatmeal, raisins, dried apricots, probiotic yogurt, blueberries. These are some of DDs favourites, so we never really have any issues with constipation! Lol

If your kid will drink smoothies, use Activia yogurt and blend some prune juice into it along with other frozen fruit, GROUND flaxseed meal, and OJ. You can add some frozen spinach into it for some extra greens and fiber if you want.

We give our son a probiotic drink (like Yakult) every day and he eats a ridiculous amount of fruit.

We never ever had poopy problems with DS, knock on wood! We do eat a lot of veggies and fruit. For now he eats half a banana each morning (and some blue berries), I pack him some fruit for snack at school; I don't know what he eats for lunch at school but if we are eating together we always have some veggies. At night we always have a cooked veggie plus a salad. I don't know if all these helps or if it is just genetics (dad's genes). Lately we have been eating more dessert than fruit after dinner and I really need to change that...

Yogurt helps, peas, green beans and fresh fruit (except banana) also work. DS' favorites are mango and apples. We haven't had the experience of apples causing constipation. We do have to be careful about cheese, though. We haven't been able to trick him into eating prunes for months now. Oh---you could also try encouraging her to drink more water. This has helped DS, especially since he won't drink juice.

We work in prunes, pears, and sweet potatoes to avoid constipation. DD loves dairy so she has trouble staying regular.

ETA: and Culterelle for kids probiotic, yogurt, and flaxseed

@Bao: yep. Apple juice is fine, and apples/applesauce have fiber and sugar which is usually helpful, but there is natural pectin in apples and that is what makes jelly solidify. It is binding.

Since we are struggling with constipation with my oldest, I'm trying to come up with foods that will help keep her regular. Heading to the store tomorrow so I want to stock up on lots of options for her to choose from.

Anything that tends to back up your LO, food wise?
