If they're good friends that you trust, and know that they'll be up front if anything were to happen, then go for it! For us, we just knew what specific carseat we wanted, so we bought our own. We also didn't have anyone offer to lend us one, so that might have skewed my view. Heck, our friends are using our Britax infant carseat and bases right now. I know they would tell us if anything happened. Is there another reason I'm not thinking of?</p> <p>I'd borrow everything possible and then return any duplicates you get at your showers for diapers. A swing, bouncer, jumparoo, baby gym, bumbo, co-sleeper or bassinet, clothes - anything! I would only maybe be somewhat hesitant about a breastpump but it sounds like you are trying to get one through insurance. All these items are helpful with a newborn but the baby outgrows them so fast! Clothes, for sure -- basic sleepers and onesies are really all you need for the first few months, and they grow out of the littlest sizes SO FAST. I know that you are not supposed to borrow breastpumps as they are single user. However, I'll admit that I did take my friend's medela pump as I know and trust her.
