Our daycare also has an older child program where you can drop them off early, they feed breakfast/take them to school, and then after school the daycare picks them up and takes them to the facility where you pick them up at after work.

When I was a kid and my parents both worked full time, they dropped me off at school in the morning, and then the school had a contract with a care program that operated out of the school's gym. So, once classes were over, I just went to the gym and participated in the after school program there until my parents picked me up.

They normally have an early drop off program in pre-schools & private schools (you pay for extra like after care), and then I believe there's early breakfast in public schools.

@Mrsbells: There are so many programs available!!

I actually worked at an elementary school doing the before and after school programs. How it works is it's a weekly fee based on how many days you need care for LO, and whether it's just morning (6-9am) or evening (3-6pm). It's not very expensive because it's about 4 child care workers hired thru the school district to about 50 kids (give or take). We always had a structured activity/craft at least once a week, tons of board games, art table, gym time and outside/recess time. I loved that job!!

Also - the YMCA has a before/after childcare program as well for similar price.

Before and after school nannies are pretty common as well.

Daycares usually have similar programs too. For any of these programs you just work with your bus line to get your LO dropped off at the right location.

I am hoping to be able to alter my work schedule or with my husband so that the kid/kids will either go to before school care (and we pick up after school) or they go to after school care (so we can take them to school).

My ILs will have moved back by then so I'm hoping they can pick her up, give her a after school snack and hang out with her till one of us gets home. As for drop off I think we can probably alternate dropping her off and being late to work. Everything is 15 minute or so around here so not a biggie.

My SIL just hired a nanny who will do the drop off and pick up.

Otherwise, there are after school programs. I am not sure about before school, though.

Right now LO is in a daycare that is open frmo 6am - to 6pm so I can drop her off before I start work at 8am. What happens when she starts real school which is usually from 8.45 to 3.15, how are you able to be at work on time if you drop off your kids and also who takes care of them from the time school is over until you get off from work?
