That chat caffienated posted is neat. I'll give the Cole's notes.

1) A week before keep your bright lights on in the evening, exposing baby to light longer in the day.

2) Shift bedtime back by 15 minutes every 2 or 3 days til you get to the new time.

3) At the same time, during that week shift the morning dark time, extending the darkness by 30 to 60 minutes. So, when they wake up, get your baby, but don't turn on the lights and try to do calm and quiet things. She says this is actually the most important part, and you MIGHT even want to start this one before you start to shift bedtime.

She notes that this time change is really only tricky for babies 4 months to 2 years.

She says these steps will make the transition super smooth, even though it takes about 10 days to complete.

She's all about the dark and light. Other general sleep tips: white noise machine, cooler room.

Naps: Gradually shift the naps at the same time as you are shifting the sleep times. Ex: 9:15 for a couple days, 9:30 for a couple days, 9:45 for a couple days....

If your baby already has a 'too late' bedtime, then this is your opportunity to just do nothing (shift by one hour) and celebrate!

If your baby is waking too early, like winniebee's, you have a lot of work to do so that you can shift it by 2 hours. :(

I will be doing the abrupt change too but starting with wake up. Right now we don't get our LO out of bed until 6:30 at the earliest. If he wakes up crazy early due to DST I will give him a quick feed and put him back down and not get him up until the new 6:30. Then we will just go about our day as usual.

We traveled across 3 time zones at 4 months and he adapted to the time changes right away so I don't think DST will be a huge blip. Babies are smart!

yep. double checked it and it says that.

So if bedtime is normally 7 and now 7 is 6, that doesn't matter: you put your child to bed at the 'new 7'.

I can't put my baby down for an early nap, but by bedtime he is tired enough to go to sleep early, so I think we'll be okay.

mrs. tictactoe mentioned a Nancy Holtzman webinar on daylight savings on her recent blog post. I'm going to try and look this up!

Seriously, i'm so stressed about it!

Edit: okay, found it! http://www.isisparenting.com/page/webinarssleep (it's the first one under previous recordings)

From what I can recall, Healthy Sleep book says to just do an abrupt change on that day, as the household routine times will change and baby will relate to that. I think that's what I remember. I can check.

Oh noooo... I hadn't even thought about this :( My guess is that our Lo's will be getting up at the same time for a few days/weeks until they adjust.

Please tell me that my son who is waking at 5 a.m. will not wake at 4 a.m. when the clocks change!! He wakes up at 5 regardless of when I put him down these days....so if I put him to bed later, he'll still wake up at 5.

How do you approach bedtimes/sleep with a clock change coming up?
