I work in HR/Insurance... so I can offer some insight, although it's not positive. FMLA only applies if your company has 50 or more employees. Those employees also have to be within 75 miles of your location.<br /> As for STD, typically you have to be enrolled for 3 months BEFORE you get pregnant for it to be covered if it is voluntary. I'm not aware of any plans that cover only 2 employees.<br /> I'm not familiar with California state laws, but their's are very different than other states... so it's worth trying to find out more.<br /> I agree that you should look for a job at a larger employer! Do you have a short-term disability policy? How about accrued sick time or PTO? I'm getting paid throughout my maternity leave through a combination of those three things. Also, do you pay into the CA state disability insurance? Then I think you're eligible to get paid by the state during some number of weeks of maternity leave. In fact I am the law firms ONLY employee (just me and the Attorney.)</p> <p>I dont have/get ANY paid time off, paid sick days, paid vacation. &amp; will NOT get any paid days when I have my baby. </p> <p>Since it is just two of us we also dont have an HR department. </p> <p>I am in California and have worked here full-time for about 4 years. (reading all that I just wrote, gosh I need to find a new job!)</p> <p>Does anyone have any advice? are there any programs out there for people like me? </p>
