@PurplePeony: Yes! I hurt all the time!

The newborn stage was the hardest and really threw me off. It surprised me how hard it was and how long it took to recover from that and get in a groove as a mom.

@Smurfette: agree, I wouldn't say it was exactly unexpected but it's definitely hard.

I'd also say the physical aspect. When she was little, I thought she was so heavy after holding her for awhile...well, now that she's a 25-lb toddler and wants to be UP! UP PEEASE! all. the. damn. time, my body is just shot. I feel awful most of the time, physically. Plus, she keeps me on my feet most of the time, running around after her, and there's all the usual house stuff to deal with on top of that, so I never really have a chance to let my poor body rest.

For me it's that I've never been an affectionate person both verbally and physically because it's cultural and the way I was raised. But the kids really need that kind of love and I'm not used to it! Luckily Mr. Bee is far more affectionate than I am, but this is something that I need to work on. Olive tells me she loves me all the time, but she always tells me first!

What has been an unexpected hard part of parenting for you?
