I've been pleasantly surprised at our experience living in such a conservative, religious, rural area. Mostly people have been friendly and warm, despite our differences. This was such a shock. I'm certain he would not have made the same comment about a straight couple, as there are plenty of foster-adopt straight couples in this county who want to adopt a baby as well. And he happens to know who we are because I've been pestering him about meeting with us (at least once??!?) for our foster child's sake. And we show up to every hearing together. I do know his name, because he happens to be the attorney for one of our kids in their case as well. The joys of living in a rural county. Problem is the source is totally unreliable, so it's possible it was never said at all. Personally, I think it was and I want him thrown off our kid's case. It's the oddest thing. She'll randomly text us to be sure we don't have any more scans scheduled, and to verify the length of each scan. </p> <p>Other than that, I truly DGAF what other people think of my parenting, so maybe people do judge us ... but I don't notice or care at all. </p> <p>@Jackiedavis87: Seriously! It's unreal. My LO was supplemented (probably 20% breast milk, 80% formula), and I couldn't believe what strangers and friends would say to me. Two friends were holding a can of our formula, reading it, and looked at me and said, "Is this even safe?!" ... I wanted to punch them in their faces. I'd be BFing in public and people would walk by and say things like, "You're a great mom for breastfeeding.", but no one ever said anything when I bottle fed. My grandparents and my in laws would be appalled if they knew that our 19 month old sleeps in our bed, or that we still babywear our toddler and have no plans to stop, or that we'll keep her rear facing as long as possible, or that she just stopped nursing a couple weeks ago--her choice, not mine. We just don't share our parenting choices with them anymore. Ironic b/c the church hands out kids' coloring sheets and crayons with a message on the back about how very welcome children are, and a reminder to non-parents that basically says in a nicer way "kids noise/wiggling is their God-given joy, and if you have a problem with it, you're the one with the issue, not the parents/kids".</p> <p>My fault for not going to the "family" mass time, I guess, but it was 9 am - not crazy early or late or anything! I have a couple of friends who don't have kids but who work in medicine and they think that makes them qualified to hold opinions on parenting. They made it clear they thought I was wrong for going to DD too quickly when she needed comforting all the time - this was back when she was like 3 months old - and that I needed to let her learn to self-soothe (obviously way too early, for anyone who has ready about infant development). Well they offered to babysit one evening, and we agreed to let them since by that point DD was passing out consistently at bedtime and sleeping straight through past midnight at least. We got home from dinner and found the two of them had gone into her nursery and taken turns holding her the entire night because they were so freaked out by the tiny little crying sounds she was making. The whole evening! We laughed, comforted her for a few minutes, put her down, and then the group of us enjoyed the rest of the evening hanging out watching movies together downstairs. We gave them so much shit about that, it was hilarious. </p>
