@BoogieBea: That's good to know! We do have one of those. But I'm a night time lunch packer, guess that's part of the problem...

@T-Mom: I pack fried rice, pasta, etc in foogo containers and it stays warm until lunchtime.

My lunch options are very limited because my son is super picky with food and I really don't want him ro go hungry at school. He likes frozen fish sticks, sausage links, ham, eggs. Veggies for him is even more limited with just broccoli or peas. I can pack my daughter other things like tomatoes, cucumbers or peppers. For fruits, my son only likes strawberries and raspberries. I used to pack bananas but the school offers bananas as snack. My daughter again will eat more variety of fruits. They've been really liking apple sauce as their snack. Other snacks include yogurt covered raisins or dried mangoes.

protein: turkey hot dogs, meatballs, homemade chicken nuggets w/spinach. the occasional peanut butter and jelly will be thrown in when we are low on groceries.

grains: rice, pasta (usually homemade mac & cheese w/peas or broccoli)

veggies: she loves broccoli, carrots, corn, peas. I usually try to do a mix of those. once in a while there will be string beans but those aren't a favorite.

fruit: her favorite is green apples. but I also send strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and tangerines

dairy: she usually has Fage yogurt w/fruit for breakfast.

other: her snacks besides fruit are usually peanuts (she loves all things peanut), raisins, and veggie straws.

For my DD who doesn't have access to microwave: sandwich, home made "lunchable", hard boiled egg, carrot sticks, hummus, veggie dip, yogurt, fruits. I tried sending fried rice yesterday and she said it was still cold and she didn't like it cold. I need more ideas too.
My DS usually gets dinner leftovers since his can get microwaved.
