@MamaPhoenix:  don't ever worry about reaching out just to vent - you are never bothering me :) . You are so lucky to have your husband. My doctor asked if I was in a serious relationship and offered to discuss my thyroid issues with my boyfriend bc she said she had seen so many relationships/marriages end with people affected by thyroid disorders.

The imbalance and effects on your whole body are crazy - active, fun loving, easy going, and happy people turn into lethargic, sleep deprived, easily exhausted, irritated, angry, overly sensitive people bc of the toll on our body. Not many people can understand that it's the disorder affecting us not that we have become miserable people. I can also relate about the exercise - I could barely walk up a flight of stairs bc my of muscle fatigue and my legs would literally give out and I felt like my heart was going to explode...it is so awful to be perceived as lazy/weak when it's the disorder.

I'm crossing my fingers that your body heals quickly and that your levels get balanced so that you can get back to feeling normal! Big hugs :)

@MamaPhoenix: Every little bit helps, right? I would encourage you to find a very experienced ND (mine is also a professor) and just see if there is anything they could do to help.

Yoga (specifically the sun salutation) helps center me a lot. I find that going running or just simply going off and yelling to myself helps me expel anger. I'm sure other drivers look at me like I'm nuts because I regularly yell and vent when I'm driving. It's the only time when I'm alone.

Im on the bipolar spectrum and I know the kind of rage and mood swings you're tAlking. I'm sorry you're going through it.

@Seattlemom: I'll have to look into that. I never even gave natural remedies a though. I just figured I'm so messed up nothing natural could fix this.
@ladybee: That a daily thing for me. You always feel better after a good cry.
@sandy: Thank you sandy. I try not to bug you so much about this. I so don't want to be a burden to anyone, but I always appreciate when you reach out. There's lots of times when I feel lonely because no one understands. You mention thyroid issues to people and they go right to the weight issues. No one really knows about all the other horrible things with this disease. My husband is my hero. The things he's dealt with and still stuck around amaze me every day. The doc's got me on 300mg of ptu a day and 20mg of an anti anxiety drug. The palpitations have lessened and so has the tremors, but the moods swings are still insane.
@mrbee: I used to be an avid runner. I loved intense exercise. Non of which I can do until I'm healed from surgery. Reason is because of graves disease is accompanied by a high rapid heart rate. Intense exercise could lead to a heart attach. I remember those days though. A long run could really beat out a lot of frustration.
@HTownMom: I think your right. I got a shit load of wine left over from my wedding that I think needs to be opened! I am also gonna book some mommy time at the salon. I really do always feel great after a cut and a dye job. Have they figured out what's wrong with your thyroid?

@simplyfelicity: I'm so sorry for your loss. You have every right to be temperamental after what you've gone through. I do know that the thyroid disease can cause miscarriages and Had to pray everyday through out my pregnancy that lo was going to be ok and make it. I had a lot of fighting going on with my Dh family while I was pregnant. They thought I was just being a drama queen and it wasn't a life threatening situation. Basically I should of just gotten over it already accordingly to MIL. Little did she understand but it was! for me and the baby. But that's a whole other story. Prayer and my faith that he brought this situation to me for a reason. I don't question why anymore. I just pray for what's next to come.
@Mrs Spoon: @Zbug: For a good laugh which is known to relieve stress, I'd try the wine first then the yoga/aerobics!
Thank you everyone. It really does help to have a sounding board from time to time.

Geez...you have described me as of late. After my most recent loss a month ago, I am so temperamental and often become angry. I am not a confrontational person at all and find that I have been calling people out lately. I feel so unreasonable and I am sure it is just the grief "talking." I pray. I ask God for peace and tell Him I need Him. I am honestly considering going back on Zoloft. My anxiety has been bad, too, I worry about my husband driving, about people being mad at me, getting in trouble at work... I got off Zoloft to TTC but I wasn't dealing with two miscarriages at the time.
Basically, I don't have many answers. I just need to lean on God, be good/kind/forgiving of myself, practice guided meditation (it's great!) and be in the moment. It's easier said than done and I am sorry you are going through this but you are not alone.

Wine, time alone, eating, shopping, reading! Anything that you enjoy but probably haven't gotten to do that much. I feel like I get so focused on the baby and what's going on with her that I forget to take care of me. Then when I do do something for myself I always feel better! Best of luck, hope to hear more about your Thyriod as mine has always been an issue as well!

@MamaPhoenix: I don't have a thyroid condition, so I haven't experienced anything near what you described... but the one thing that's worked to stabilize my mood is intense exercise. That and, avoiding certain foods which tend to de-stabilize my mood.

Hope your doctor is able to help, and that things get better soon! So sorry you've had to deal with this!!

@MamaPhoenix: I'm so sorry you are having these moments. All I can say is that I completely understand. You know my background and that I also had a thyroid condition. I've read books about thyroid disease and you know what they diagnosed women who had thyroid disease about 100 years ago - they were diagnosed with hysteria. I completely relate to the feeling of just being on edge and feeling like you need to scream (I would do this) and just feeling so out of control upset. My mom went through the same thing and thought she was having anxiety attacks and crazy mood swings. When she finally got diagnosed and then I got diagnosed we both noticed a drastic change. I felt like a completely different person - random things wouldn't just set me off or make me feel crazy - I felt balanced and normal and happy.

I would talk to your doctor about it and if he/she doesn't understand - find someone else. My doctor was telling me how crazy the thyroid can make us feel/act and that often patients have relationships end and jobs fail - and when they're treated it's like a different person. I thought she was being dramatic. Well, she put me on some meds to balance me right away (beta blockers to stop the crazy heart palpitations and crazy high heart rate) and I noticed a change relatively quickly.

Best of luck with your thyroid treatment. Just know that it's a normal part of thyroid disease and it's not your fault and that it will get better

Meditation, deep breaths, yoga, etc. Maybe you could see a naturopath about some supliments to take? I have some anxiety my ND has me taking GABA(an amino acid) every day to help keep me calm. It really helps!

I so at my wits end with this fricken disease already. Because my thyroid also plays a roll with my mood, I find that I loose my temper very easily. I don't know if any of you remember that Animaniacs cartoon character named Katie Kaboom! Well that's me. I feel when it comes on. Its like the fricken incredible hulk. I cannot do anything about it. This morning at church LO was having a melt down for the first time ever in church. I tried everything to calm her. Then I started getting frustrated. I walked her to the bathroom and tried some more rocking etc. As I was walking out of the bathroom this woman was just standing 5 feet from the other side of the door when I opened it. She was giving me this look like I was beating my kid and she heard me. She then watched me walk all the way back to the end of the hall with this look on her face. I got my DH and we had to leave. I was ready to loose it. In church of all places. I was enraged and so mad at this complete stranger.
I hate not being normal. I get so upset after one of these episodes. I don't ever want to be around her when it comes on. I don't ever want her to feel like its because of her. I have a few more weeks to go before my surgery. Help me through this.
What calms you? How do you handle your frustrations with your lo or other people in general. Besides walking away or getting DH to help. What else can I try.
